sfcook Posted November 7, 2008 #1 Share Posted November 7, 2008 I tried to post this but had a problem, this is my first time here. We want to book an Alaskan cruise on Serenade of the Seas and the cabin we are looking at it right across from the Explorer's Court. What is Explorer's Court and is it noisy? Hubby is a light sleeper so we can't be across from a party-like area. Thx!

About the only noise you will hear is the turning of pages or some one might be playing cards. No worry.

We really want to book this cruise but wondered why this carbin (plus one just a few cabins down) were still available. We have sailed on Explorer a couple of times, which we liked, and Norweigian, which we didn't, but just aren't really familiar with the classes of ships and their layouts. Since you were recently on Serenade are there things you would recommend, little nooks to relax in, better places to enjoy music--not the disco, etc. Was there anything you would say we must do, anything to avoid? We love hearing all the insider info. in preparation for our travel. BTW, thanks to your response, we are booking the cabin across from the Explorer's Court tomorrow! BIG THANKS! We'll have almost a year of fun planning our cruise. Planning is almost as much fun as going! :)
sharkfood Posted November 7, 2008 #4 Share Posted November 7, 2008 Solarium is really nice, also the Safari club is nice to just sit and relax. We spent an afternoon there just playing cards and looking out to sea. We did Alaska on the Serenade this past August and hope to do it again in 2010. karena1 Posted November 7, 2008 #5 Share Posted November 7, 2008 Schooner's is a great bar. Piano music, just a nice place to sit and relax. Portofino's and Chops are off this bar. We went there every night for a drink b/c we liked it so much in there. We hit Schooner's on every ship we are in, DH's favorite bar of all. Emi's Mom Posted November 7, 2008 #6 Share Posted November 7, 2008 The "party-like" atmosphere usually occurs on the pool deck :D. We'll be on the Serenade in just a few hours, or plane leaves in the morning at 6am!!! Happy Cruising everyone!

We'll have almost a year of fun planning our cruise. Planning is almost as much fun as going! :) During the day we would go to the Voretx club on deck 13 to play cards. It is quiet and has excellent views. Also almost no-one was there before 3PM. The Seaview cafe is a find. Way back on deck 12 behind the Kid's club. Many people never even find it. Excellent place to watch the ocean from the outside seating. The food in the Seaview isn't bad either. Don't forget to play pool and those amazing tables. We purchased the Thermal suite package for our cruise. It was $219.00 for 15 days. That is the cost for 2 and we used it almost every day. It was limited to 20 couples and we loved it. Especially the heated tiled beds. If you get the thermal package use the ice by the sauna to cool off the tiles on the thermal beds. The floor to ceiling windows are great for views. The Serenade is a wonderful ship and you should just love your cruise. Our favourite ship is the Explorer and we are on her next April 26th. The Radiance class is our next favourite class. You won't regret it. Go right to Chops when you get on a book a night.

sfcook Posted November 10, 2008 Author #12 Share Posted November 10, 2008 Tim,n,Sue, Oh Serenade sounds great! We love to shoot pool and are huge spa people, so we'll definitely get the thermal package. Can't wait to try tile beds. We really like Explorer, as well, but think Serenade will be a better fit for us because it is smaller. Our first cruises were on smaller ships, around 1800 passengers each. The first time on Explorer was overwhelming, it seemed like we were in Las Vegas! Apparently we have gotten used to it because we will be on Explorer for the third time next month. Funny, we looked at the 4/26/09 cruise and came thisclose to booking it but decided on Panama instead. You will have a great group of folks on 4/26, a number of people from our previous Explorer cruises have picked that cruise, too. Thanks so much for your help.
