Great Pre or Post Cruise Hotel

We recently stayed pre-cruise at the elegant El San Juan Resort & Casino. Hotwire bid $150 + 18. resort fee & taxes

This casino resort hotel on the Isle Verde exceeded our expectations from check-in to check out.

We had early arriving flights and were allowed to check in by 11 AM. We had Two king size rooms in the Main Tower; one facing the garden & pool, the other overlooking the roof. We were given a complimentary upgrade to large one room suites on the 5th and 7th floors. Mini-bar prices are out of this world!

Pool bar(s) served refreshing tropical concoctions. Beach was lovely but some seaweed was evident. Outside Jacuzzi was refreshing as was the main pool. Due to rain showers, many of the padded lounges were wet but plenty were available. Get pool towels at the towel bar just outside the hotel exit to the pools

The newly opened Jimmy’s BBQ restaurant on the 10th floor was a fun place to stop for drinks or for great looking slabs of ribs.

Didn't have time for gambling but the Old San Juan style casino was as beautiful as ever. Lobby bars (3) and seating areas where very inviting. Stores were upscale, but fortunately it was Sunday before we had time to explore the gallery and most of them were closed.

Service was A-1 from the bellman to the front desk associates.

I was very impressed. This was our 2nd. stay> Previously it was a chain hotel but is now a local independent property.

We enjoyed lunch at Edith’s Café for great Cubano’s (Cuban & Puerto Rican food) just a couple of blocks to the left of the El San Juan Hotel. We had breakfast at Piu Bello, only a few steps further. This was very clean and bright similar to an old diner. Both were very reasonable and a short walk from the hotel. We went to the Ritz Carlton and walked through their resort.

Bon Voyage
