bigal3967 Posted November 16, 2008 #1 Share Posted November 16, 2008 My DW and I will be celebrating our 20th anniversary on the Navigator of the Seas in January. We don't want to set up any tours before the cruise and I'm not sure what we will want to do at this point in time. Any suggestions?? iancal Posted November 17, 2008 #2 Share Posted November 17, 2008 We have been twice. THe first time we did a four hour Captain Marvins snorkel tour (three stops including Stingray City) and then we had them drop us off at seven mile beach. We accessed the beach via one of those large hotels and walked for two hours. We then got the local bus back to town. It was a great tour. Second time we rented a car from Avis. They picked us up at their downtown depot and drove us to the airport to pick up the car. If you do this it is advisable to pre book with a rental agency via the web. We toured the island..spent some time at Rum Point, then had lunch at a quant restaurant that had previously been an infamous lighthouse. Another great day. The car was inexpensive BUT it was standard transmission and right hand drive. We are used to this so it did not pose a problem. The island is very easy to get around and it would be difficult to get lost. We did not really bother with the shops on either trip....they are just more of the same and we are not great shoppers. bigal3967 Posted November 17, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted November 17, 2008 Thank you for the information. We are considering renting a car also. Is there parking at the beaches anf rum point if you wanted to stop and spend a couple of hours at the beach? Al
alphakitty Posted November 17, 2008 #4 Share Posted November 17, 2008 We also rented a car in GC with Avis. Had a great day driving the coast line and stopping at Rum Point. There is plenty of room to park and enjoy the beach there. It is so beautiful, worth the drive. The island was very quiet with no traffic outside of the downtown area. Very easy and a great, relaxing day.
iancal Posted November 18, 2008 #5 Share Posted November 18, 2008 As the OP said, there is bags of parking at Rum Point. There is a beautiful beach there as well as a bar/restaurant. I am not certain, but I assume that you could also use a hotel parking lot to access Seven Mile Beach or find a free parking spot across the road from a hotel. Just don't leave any valuables in the car. We stopped at many places and never experienced a parking issue-always lots of room at the side of the road. We drove to Rum Point first as we wanted to be there before any of the bus tours arrived. Oddly enough, we did not seem to meet any buses on the road. The roads are very good. You will have no issue. From our perspective, renting your own car and doing it on your own is far better than being stuck with another 40 people on a ship tour.
