Belize on Our Own - Suggestions Please

We'll be in Belize for what seems like a short amount of time (7:30 - 4:30pm)

Any suggestions for the best location to go snorkeling on our own? I hate

the idea of going on an excursion with 50+ people and then having to

snorkle in a line "following the leader". From what I've seen it looks like

the best idea would be to take a water taxi over to Caye Caulker and then

try to find a snorkle sight once we get there. Any suggestions from

those of you who have done Belize on your own? What if we wanted to go

over to Goff's Caye on our own?

Do a search for Goff's Caye excursions. You can book through local tour companies for this and for other snorkel excursions. There is no beach or snorkel from the beach anywhere near Belize City, with one exception. Search on these boards for information about Coral Sands new resort. It offers snorkeling as well. Caye Caulker should be doable in your time frame if you get off the ship as soon as possible. For more information about water taxis, snorkel tours, etc. try gocayecaulker.com. The reef and stingrays are only a short boat trip(10 minutes or so) from Caye Caulker. Bigger rays than you see at Grand Caymen.
