SuperStar Virgo cabin query 2008

Has anyone been on the Virgo who can help describe cabins and location preference. We are looking at Deck 9 for March 2009, cabins which are NOT inter-connecting.

If we are near to the lifts/stairs, is it very noisy?

On Deck 9 is there any noise from the restaurants below?

Any other advice or info appreciated

Deck 9 go for outside cabin category BC Oceanview Stateroom with window.

 

You should have no problems with noise on that deck .

 

Better still go for deck 10 category BB Oceanview Stateroom with window,

 

Main restaurants are on deck 6 so you are well away from any noise.

 

Avoid Deck 11 cabins as deck 12 above is open pool bars, games etc and people can scrape chairs around late into the night .

I believe cats BC and BB above should say "with balcony" (not window).

 

We have always had balcony cabins forward on deck 11 and never had any problems with noise from above - things may be different further back though.

Thanks. Is there any more info/tips you can provide re the Virgo. What will our fellow passengers consist of, in the main? I'm presuming Asian and Australian.

Is dress smart casual, mostly?

Casual during the day, smart casual at night . Captains Gala Dinner very smartest casual, gents jacket etc ; but no penguin suits required.

 

Tip : the cheapest way to partake of Peking duck is to go to the NOBLE HOUSE (Pay Restaurant) for $ 20 Aus per head minimum 4 persons you get 6 pieces duck skin in pancakes per person, then they bring the meat of the duck with veg. Add a serve of rice and you have a great value meal .

Inside Stateroom - Categories DD Deck 5 , DC Deck 6, DB Decks 8 & 9.

DA Decks 10 & 11.

 

Oceanview with Porthole - Categories CD Decks 5 & 6.

 

Oceanview with Window - Categories CC Deck 5, CB Deck 6,

CA Decks 8 & 9 .

 

Oceanview with Balcony - Categories BC Deck 9, BB Deck 10,

BA Deck 11.

 

Junior Suites - Categories AD Deck 10 AC Deck 9

 

Executive Suites - Categories AB Deck 10 AA Decks 9 & 10

 

* Categories CA to DD are World Cruiser - BLUE Cabin Access Cards.

Just as a word of warning. I have been in cabin 11088 and as the ship increased speed the cabin had a bad vibration which went through everything. At the slower cruising speeds it was nowhere as bad but if the ship was behind in schedual the faster speeds caused the problem I think.

The vibration at speed under certain sea conditions with both SS VIRGO and SS GEMINI is called cavitation .

 

This is simply the propellors turning compressing air bubbles which explode against the propellors setting up the vibration throughout the vessel . These air bubbles exploding over time can severely pit the brass propellors . Usually the condition comes and goes and is not continuous. On the leg where VIRGO leaves Phuket and heads straight back to Singapore in like 1 1/2 days there is a time constraint and they ramp up the speed to near max knots. That is when cavitation can develop at times. It is a well known condition with passenger ships. No wonder engineering solution has been found to overcome cavitation at this stage .
