Aplmac Posted December 19, 2008 #101 Share Posted December 19, 2008 Aplmac - it does not even look crowded at the St Thomas sail away - you need to share your secret for where the crowds are NOT! I love finding little spots that are away from the crowds on a cruise. Upper upper decks are a good start. Few ppl take the time to get right up high on what I call the Funnel Deck i.e. up here - or the deck where this shot was taken from Over on the left, you'll notice there's one more flight of steps up (to waterslide-entry level) where few people bother to climb the stairs (arthritis?) Up there is a fab place to take pictures from, since you can't get much higher. Even the Funnel Deck isn't quite that high, I think(not certain). And as mentioned earlier getting back early when everyone's still doing the hot sweaty thing ashore is a good time to have the ship almost to yourself. And also...maybe I simply wasn't on a really full cruise?? .
Aplmac Posted December 19, 2008 #102 Share Posted December 19, 2008 You got me searching thru all my files lookin for crowded shots. Bear in mind that a super-wide-angle lens like many of these shots are taken with make things look a bit more spacious than they really are -makes people in the distance look very small and far away so some of what you're seeing(not seeing) might be that? Despite all that I found a crowded pool shot for you - LIDO Deck -amidships Besides...after a few of these.. who gives a shirt anyway! .
Aplmac Posted December 19, 2008 #103 Share Posted December 19, 2008 There's top decks and then there's Top Decks. To illustrate my point about getting high on a ship (sorry,Security.. no offence intended) let's have a look at this shot I posted earlier. At the very bottom of the shot is LIDO - where the pool is located. Come up one deck, where you can see the sea over on the left.. - that's what most people consider Top Deck, where you can get up there and feel the breeze in your face as you look over the rail. To the right of the big TV Screen you'll see just two ppl standing on a deck that's even higher than what we all think of as 'Top Deck' -that's the deck with the blue Jogging Track.. i.e. this one and above them is my 'Funnel Deck' with no-one in sight, you may notice ____________________________________________ Investigate those smaller upper decks and you'll 1. escape crowds 2. have a great vantage point for shooting down on the scene below! Aplmac Posted December 19, 2008 #108 Share Posted December 19, 2008 Y'all going to Brimstone Hill Fortress, right? This extraordinary historical site is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and anyone with military history interests should definitely include this in their day. I think we paid about US$6 per person for admittance and you can pay a bit more for one of those informative walk-around-with handsets that tell you everything. There's also a short slide-show./presentation at the beginning before you make your way up to the citadel at the very top to see .. Even if you go just for the view.. (it's about 800-900 ft. above sea-level).. there's plenty to see from up there! Enter the inner courtyard Go here to find out more.. http://www.brimstonehillfortress.org/ . Aplmac Posted December 22, 2008 #122 Share Posted December 22, 2008 I rather liked the amazing glasswork art along Neptune's Way. Noticed similar glasswork on Carnival Destiny, as well.
