Aplmac Posted January 21, 2009 #327 Share Posted January 21, 2009 I found a few more.. This is the lookout over Charlotte Amalie, at St.Thomas, USVI Roseau DOMINICA on the rainy morning on November 4th. Curiously it rained only on the land, not on the ship! talk about contrasts in weather, huh? .
Memphis_Wife Posted January 21, 2009 #328 Share Posted January 21, 2009 I have only been on one cruise - with RCL, two years ago so I am trying to remember.... Are all the decks wood? Aplmac your pictures look like wood decking?!
Aplmac Posted January 21, 2009 #329 Share Posted January 21, 2009 I have only been on one cruise - with RCL, two years ago so I am trying to remember.... Are all the decks wood? ===> Pretty much! Aplmac your pictures look like wood decking?! Traditionally the decks of ships are Teak -- yes they're wood, Teak being particularly durable, out in the weather day and night All this decking is Teak.. When it's freshly cut and laid down, Teak is a rich 'oily' brown (by nature it's an oily wood, which is why it gets used for this tough use but not oily in the sense it'll make you slip and slide, so no worries there) The sun and rain quickly oxidise its surface to the sort of silver-grey color you see in these shots. These are typical-lookin Teak decks!
Memphis_Wife Posted January 22, 2009 #330 Share Posted January 22, 2009 Can you imagine how much all that teak costs? Holy moly! We put new hardwood floors in our house and just about had a heart attack - cannot imagine all the decks on a ship!
Feistyred Posted January 22, 2009 #331 Share Posted January 22, 2009 We just returned from this cruise and I had a wonderful time. I don't know that I'd do it again cause a different port everyday kicked my butt!:o We did a different beach in every port(but Dominica, it was raining there) and have some nice pics but I'm not sure how to post them or where to go to put them up so you can see them. If someone can tell me what to do... We started as a group of 60 I thought but by the time we all got together there was almost 80 of us. The only time anyone saw us all together was the night we had our pictures taken on the steps in the lobby bar. A good time was had by all! If someone can tell me what to do... Would suggest you go over to http://photobucket.com/and set yourself up with a free account and start assembling your collection there. When you get to know what you're doing at Photobucket you can create distinct albums, sub-albums and sub-sub-albums to categorise your pics. Anyone wanting to take a look at mine(for an example) need only click on http://s177.photobucket.com/albums/w219/aplmac/ and go from there, first noticing a bunch of album titles over in the left hand column --those are various cruises, etc. Click on them and see what opens up before you! At each individual cruise folder, you'll find destination folders (again..in the left hand column). Build your photo collection there..(take you a few days?) and then start posting them over here on CC threads, where they show quite large (assuming you made them large, over at Photobucket..) This is Destiny, not Victory, but just as nice.. :) Victory ..docked at St.Thomas
Kaboochi Posted January 26, 2009 #333 Share Posted January 26, 2009 ..was fabulous! I ordered the Indian veggie thing which turned out to be equal to anything we have here(Barbados) at Apsara gourmet Indian restaurant. Aplmac, Where is the Indian restuarant? Is it near the pier or Rockley "Accra" beach? We love Indian cuisine. Thanks to your help our group will surely be enjoying our visit to your island NEXT WEEK!!!!! Kaboochi Posted January 26, 2009 #334 Share Posted January 26, 2009 A few shots of the Port area at St.Johns, ANTIGUA There's that Pirate Ship again.. Reading this thread for the second time and came across this pic. My dear friend manages this shop and we are going to see and her family in 12 days on our Victory Cruise. Aplmac Posted January 26, 2009 #335 Share Posted January 26, 2009 Aplmac, Where is the Indian restuarant? Is it near the pier or Rockley "Accra" beach? We love Indian cuisine. Apsara is near Accra/Rockley, just about 3/4 mile beyond the beach at the Rendezvous/Worthing Rd. intersection, v.close to the traffic lights on the land side of the road, behind Cave Shepherd's branch, there but I'm not sure... You're SO lucky.. :) I just phoned them...they DO 'do Lunch' - Monday to Friday only from Noon until about 2 - 2:30 p.m. Their tel.number is 435-5454 when you're here on the island. It may be best to phone ahead and see if... Bon apetite! -and my number is 427-0146 if you want to invite me along!! :D
Aplmac Posted January 26, 2009 #336 Share Posted January 26, 2009 Digging around a bit... I came across this shot from May 2007, taken in Dominica from atop the Morne Bruce lookout spot in Roseau showing Carnival Destiny at the Roseau dock. Ok so substitute Victory for Destiny and you essentially have the same ship on exactly the same Eastern Caribbean loop.
Aplmac Posted January 28, 2009 #337 Share Posted January 28, 2009 When you stop at Barbados there's a scenic boardwalk that runs along the waterfront in Bridgetown just one street over from the main shopping area on Broad Street .
CruisinJazz Posted January 28, 2009 #338 Share Posted January 28, 2009 FieryRed...would love to see your pics, read a report and learn about the excursions you did!! Aplmac Posted January 28, 2009 #339 Share Posted January 28, 2009 And if you get over to Accra/Rockley Beach there's also a mile-long boardwalk there that takes in a good stretch of sunny coastline! .
Aplmac Posted January 28, 2009 #340 Share Posted January 28, 2009 Maybe you could do the Atlantis submarine dive tour... this pic shows her being towed out to the dive-site.. If you want to swim with the turtles you'll need to catch one of these coastal cruisers..
Cigar Dude Posted January 28, 2009 #341 Share Posted January 28, 2009 If you want to swim with the turtles you'll need to catch one of these coastal cruisers.. Keep the pics coming Aplmac! BTW, is "swim with the turtles" code for some sexual encounter?
Aplmac Posted January 29, 2009 #342 Share Posted January 29, 2009 BTW, is "swim with the turtles" code for some sexual encounter? No...it's becoming a very popular activity for visitorswhere West Coast tours carry them over to where turtles hang out -waiting to be fed!- and where snorkellers get into the water with the turtles swimming all around them. It's a big hit, second only (I reckon) to Harrison's Caves!
irmanumber1 Posted February 1, 2009 #343 Share Posted February 1, 2009 I just want to thankyou for sharing those photo's. They are all amazing....I booked the Victory just to go to these ports. I am so exited, more now then ever. I am so confused on what beachs to go...I was going to the boatyard but after looking at your beautiful pictures I think I will go to the ACCRA. Do they serve drinks there and does someone come by or do you have to go to the bar? I love the water and I only come out to have a cold one...Also the ship looks nice... padre Posted February 2, 2009 #344 Share Posted February 2, 2009 St Kitts was one of my favorite ports! The Scenery was amazing This is the Atlantic Ocean on the left and the Caribbean Sea on the right Monkeys everywhere. If you look close, you can see a couple of them running past us! pingwin77 Posted February 3, 2009 #346 Share Posted February 3, 2009 I am actually taking this cruise in a week and a half and can't thank you enough for all the pictures and stories! I do have one questions for you. You mentioned the Black Pearl around page 3 or so and I didn't see any pictures of it. Is this really something you get to see? My friends would flip out if I could bring back some photos of that! Thanks again for all the time and pictures! I can't wait to see all of this for myself! Aplmac Posted February 3, 2009 #347 Share Posted February 3, 2009 what great pics....keep them coming..... Aplmac Posted February 3, 2009 #348 Share Posted February 3, 2009 St Kitts was one of my favorite ports! Monkeys everywhere. If you look close, you can see a couple of them running past us! I see them ..scampering across the road there! ..two of them Looks to be the same species of Vervet 'green' monkey that was introduced to several of these Caribbean islands at the time of the slave trade from Africa. This same species is still to be found in Western Africa...specimens were brought across the Atlantic on the slave boats along with other African items, like Baobab seeds...there are two African Baobab trees on Barbados (one in Queen's Park, the other at Warrens)
cruiselover00029 Posted February 3, 2009 Author #349 Share Posted February 3, 2009 Just dropping in to say hello. I scanned the Capers into my computer as j pegs but they are too large to post here. Aplmac, any suggestions? I dont know how to make them smaller.
Aplmac Posted February 3, 2009 #350 Share Posted February 3, 2009 I booked the Victory just to go to these ports. I am so exited, more now then ever. I am so confused on what beaches to go...I was going to the Boatyard but after looking at your beautiful pictures I think I will go to the ACCRA. ===> The wiser choice. ;) Do they serve drinks there ===> Yes. and does someone come by ===> No...you're thinking of Sandy Lane :D or do you have to go to the bar? ===> Yes. At Sandy Lane, waiters come out to guests on their beach chairs to take a drinks order. You probably can't afford Sandy Lane and that kind of service(trust me on that one!) Accra's very nice -as you've already concluded- and yes there are snack-shacks nearby... and cold drinks available, too but you'll have to draaag yourself outa that turquoise water and go get it for yourself, sorry! These small huts are just back from the immediate beach area and the shower stalls and changing rooms are right close by too 'on the other side of this shot' .
