Los Angeles Port Questions & Vision Questions

Perki

Recommended Posts

1st, we booked this trip just last Monday and leave this Sunday, therefore we need to pick up our tickets, etc at the pier...is this place where we pick these up clearly marked with "Will Call" or something of the sort? Also, does anyone have knowledge of what time we can get there to get them? Does this ship begin boarding around Noon? On the deck map it doesn't show a pool bar on the pool deck or one on the deck above overlooking the pool area - are their bars in either of these areas as there are on most ships? Does the Buffet serve sit-down dining at night if one does not feel like going to the main dining room, if so does the menu vary or is it the same menu every night? Sorry so many questions, new to Royal Caribbean so not sure what to expect. Also, never booked so close to leaving and never had to pick up tickets at the pier so kind of nervous about that part too. THANKS!

The port in Los Angeles (San Pedro) is fairly well laid out. There are also "attendants" who will point you in the right direction so no worries.

There is a bar located on the same deck as the pool. It was a semi-circle with stools and all the booze you could care to guzzle. In addition there was always a slew of folks pushing the drinks of the day. In fact there were bars all over the ship from the most quiet corners to the most public places.

The Windjammer had a full selection of dining choices. For the most part it mirrors the meals in the dining rooms, however I don't recall seeing lobster served.

The Vision is great ship, I think you'll have a GREAT time!

First welcome to Royal Caribbean. I will try and answer some of your questions.

Yes there are bars, not that I frequent them. ..lol...at the pool. There will be bar servers coming around taking orders and have drink of the day specials already made.

In the Windjammer/buffet, sorry no sit down service. You will have servers that clear your dirty plates and so on, but you will have to get your own food. The menu is pretty much based on what is being served in the main dining room plus a few other choices. I always found something I liked in the Windjammer.

I really don't know about "will call" But sure someone there will direct you to the right place. As for boarding I would arrive early as possible and try and board as soon as they allow. All our cruises said boarding begins at 2 pm and we were always on by 12:30. The worst that will happen is you'll sit and wait in the terminal.

Enjoy your cruise and please post on your return.

Get there by 11 or 11:30 and get in line. A pier pick-up means you just check in with your ID. You don't have to actually pick up any tickets. Your name will be on the ship's manifest.

Thanks so much for all the info, guess we will just get there early and get in line like recommended. We are also hoping to get an upgrade, even if we have to pay a little more at the pier, from Balcony to Jr Suite maybe...our 10th Anniversary I guess it's worth the splurge! Thanks again!

We got to the pier about 10:30 last month, checked in and then had to wait in the loung area in the terminal until they started boarding at 11:00. Quick lunch at the Windjammer and laying by the pool by noon.

Great ship, you will enjoy it.

You can still fill out your information online. I suggest that you do this now so that everything is taken care of. I just got back from the port yesterday. It is well laid out and you shouldn't have any problems finding your way around.

Thanks JKRISLC, already done the online registration now just counting the days! Was it warm in LA, being from Vegas I look at the weather and see 71 and think "cold" especially since it is damp there, I know it'll be warm in Mexico so I do have that to look forward too, just feel like I'm going to look like Im going to Alaska on our Welcome Aboard picture cause I'll probably have a light jacket and pants on rather than nice shorts/skort and short sleeve shirt like in FL. perki...i will tell you that its not very warm in LA right now. I'm sitting in Century City looking out the window to the Pacific Ocean and it looks nice and warm outside... but looks can be deceiving... my computer thermometer that measures temperatures in Santa Monica (at the beach) says 63! yikes! it was cold and rainy most of this past weekend! supposedly we are supposed to be back up to 80 this weekend. maybe by the time you take your cruise it will be much warmer!

jstducky!

Perki,

We just got back from this cruise on Sunday. It was actually quite chilly sailing out of LA on Sunday. Monday, our first at sea day was very windy and cool. They opened up the Solarium pool so the kids use it. We used our balcony most of the day, as it protected us from the wind. Coming back to LA, our last two sea days, Friday and Saturday were the same way. Especially Saturday, it was really windy and very cool. To me it was uncomfortable being on the pool deck. It was just too windy to be enjoyable.

Thanks AmySP and JstDucky, that's pretty much what I thought. My hubby is from La Habra but moved to Vegas about 16 years ago, and my in-laws live in Stanton, but my my mom in-law is always "hot" so I can never know if she is telling me the truth or not (tee hee). I have Long Beach saved on my favorites for weather.com and it does show it is supposed to warm to upper 70's by the weekend, I have my fingers crossed! Amy, we have a balcony room too, on Deck 7, we are wondering about upgrading to a JR Suite on Deck 8 but worried about it being right below the pool deck - were you on Deck 7 or Deck 8?
