We are on the 12.21.08 Victory cruise and I'm wondering about "shore" money. Do we need local currancy for all of the ports?

No....US$ works.

We've used U.S. dollars everywhere we've cruised, the Caribbean and Mexico. No one has ever turned down the dollar. Most cruises in the Caribbean originate in the US and the ports expect US dollars. There's at least one Caribbean island/country that bases their dollar on the U.S. dollar.

US is always good. You may get taken advantage of if you get change back in foreign currency. You should change your large bills for small at the purser's desk if you're going to do local shopping.

In Mexico, they like to give you pesos back as change. We usually use credit cards except for taxis and tips when we don't expect change back.

Always ask, "How much US $." In Mexico, if the price says $10 pesos, it should be around $5 US. Bring lots of ones!
