i d like to remind those who may qualify for the military rates to use

them rather than waiting for the best deal to come around..

i ve continually compared rates during promotion s to what i ve paid and

the promo pricing did nt come close to the military rate..

the closest it s come was $400 for our upcoming Alaskan cruise..and during the most recent promotion there was a $500 differance..

I am new to cruising and can take advantage of military rates... how big are they.. and is calling the best way to go? do you work directly with the cruise line or through an agent or site like crucon???

Just a reminder to those of you who think they can show up at the dock and purchase a ticket......now with Homeland Security, the manifest has to be completed prior to sailing, no last minute purchases.

Our best deal was $549 on the Gem for a 7 day European vacation last month. It was the best vacation of my life as far as sites to see and a wonderful ship experience.

Our best deal that we took: Several years ago, we had booked on the Dawn (was relatively new at the time) for a special itinerary 12 night cruise. That cruise was canceled when NCL realigned their ships. Our agent spoke with NCL and they offered us an 18 night Panama Canal on the Sky for about $100 less with a substantial on-board credit.

Our best deal we had to pass on: Recently there was a Sky 4 night special for $29 plus port and taxes, but we weren't able to clear the time.

Several have posted on these boards about the military discount. Is that restricted to those now on active duty or anyone who has served in the military in the past?

I was just approved for the military discount and I've never served in the military. But my late husband received an honorable discharge - thus I qualified. Go to the "partners" section on the NCL website for more details.

The best cruise deal I have ever gotten was a San Francisco to Mexico roundtrip cruise. The cruise was originally listed as a 7 night itinerary and booked one of the family suites on deck 8 aft. We had several friends book the same deal, thus, the back of the ship on deck 8 kind of belonged to us. About 2 months before the cruise, our TA called and said the cruise was canceled but in lieu, they would book us on the 11 itinerary they changed this to for the same price in the same room with $200 shipboard credit for the inconvience. ha! What inconvenience...we got the family suite for $650 pp ... now with $200 extra spending money. Everyone but one of our friends jumped on this deal.

OK...here is the kicker, we won the entire price of the cruise back in the casino....using some of our shipboard credit to obtain the casino credits.

Some deals just fall in your lap but I could not imagine anything that sweet ever happening again.

Our best deal was a 12 day on RCL for $329/pp - inside. Great because we could drive to the port - so no airfare. Even better because our room ended up being handicapped and was HUGE with a HUGE shower.

Downside - we saw a family with a little girl in a wheelchair that were NOT in a handicapped room. We would have gladly given up the room for them. I told them next time to make sure and request a handicapped room - they didn't know they were available. I'm glad I didn't know about her until the last few days, or I would have been racked with guilt the whole trip. Still a great deal and wonderful trip!

Currently booked on Jade for 12-day Med for $429 - inside. Made even better by having enough AA points to fly free!

Our best deal is coming up on the Jewel on April 28. We have an AF minisuite for two for a grand total of $1365, with $100 OBC. Our TA had some credits/coupons or something that he applied to our booking. This is a 12 nite cruise. And we have airmiles on AA, so this is going to be a great and cheap vacation.

Lets see, our 7 day Dawn to Bermuda cruise a few months ago $650 for 2 people in an Oceanview cabin. That was the the total price after all NCF & taxes. Cashed in FF miles for air.

We have a balcony (BA) booked on a future cruise, 7 days Western Caribbean that's about $1250 total for 2 people ($75 OBC as well)

IMO-Longhorn Lady has the best deal :D

We sailed on the NCL Sky in 2004 for a week to the Southern Carib from San Juan.

Had a BA aft for $750 pp, paid for it with Compass rewards. Airfare was cheaper through NCL, also paid for with Compass rewards.

1 week before xmas (2 weeks before the cruise) we got upsold to an AB (Aft penthouse) for $250 pp......I paid with a CC for that. (Translated into another $20 of compass rewards earnings)

$500 out of pocket in an AB for a week in the Southern Carib including RT air and transfers felt like a great deal.

Our next great deal is our upcoming cruise 2 week cruise on the Jade. Total cruise fare for our family of 5, ~6600, will be paid almost entirely with $6500 in Compass rewards. The bad news is trying to find air fare for 5 RT from Detroit in July. Probably will cost more than the cruise fare.

Longhorn Lady.... this cruise is from Dover UK.....

We're on the repositioning cruise from Miami to get to Dover on the Jewel, leaving April 17th for 11 days.... so we'll be getting off when you get on!!

We've also got a great price..... $263 pp military rate.

Is your flight to the UK and transport to Dover very expensive?

We paid only $299 for a 7 night Dawn E Carib cruise, with $90 each OBC. Our airfare was that much! Met two ladies on the ship who had called their travel agent and said, "find us a real deal" and got the cruise for $150 each. The agent said they had to act immediately because it would be gone tomorrow. HOW?

Is it the travel agency's efficiency in finding these 48 hour wonders?

I get the emails from all the lines, but I've never seen anything like $29 fares! Please spill the beans, you guys! How can we find these low rates? Thanks
