I just made final payment on my first solo cruise, I'm very excited about this trip, I travel solo often on land vacations, the supplement was a bitter pill to swallow but in the end I'm sure it will be worth it.

I've learned to simply look the other way with respect to the supplement. As long as the overall cost seems reasonable, and isn't more than about $200 per day, I just go for it.

I agree..it is just part of the price and when you add in what you get...room and closet space and all the attention of the staff...and there are deals out there...

 

if I waited to go with someone who wnated to go where I wanted to go when...well I would still be waiting....

I did my first solo's last month, and I've got to say, it was fantastic. Yeah, paying double is a little rough, but for that extra money you get the entire bed to yourself, as much closet space as you need, showers any time you desire, nobody else wanting to get up early on the days you want to sleep in and the freedom to just worry about making yourself happy.

 

Have fun! On my solos, the minute I got on the ship, I went to the dining room and talked to the maitre de and asked to be seated at a large table with other solo/single cruisers. It worked out great, and my tablemates ended up being great sources of fun.

solo 5 times:D

Dec 2007...was a short one...4 nights Caribbean

March 2008...10 nights was to celebrate my 50th birthday!

Sept 2008....8 nights to Alaska

Nov 2008.....a 2 night Pre-Inaugural on SOLSTICE! Oh, that

one I went with a friend for the new ship....but we had fun:D

Dec 2008....4 nights Caribbean

And next month is 10 nights:D:)........

 

All the others were solo.....gotta LOVE IT!

I go solo about half the time and I love it. I think it's the perfect example of the phrase "cheap at twice the price".

 

OP, are you doing the Disney Cruise Lines? I've only done Royal Caribbean and Carnival. I've always wanted to do Disney, but the prices start so much higher and when I price it with the Single Supplement, I just can't afford it.

 

If you are, then you'll have to let us know how it goes!

OMG, for me a good solo deal is less than 70$ on regular lines and aound 100$ for Cunard :O

(I am fine with an inside cabin for that price, and you have to be very flexible in order to grab those but they DO exist, once in a while).

I was invited to sail her for the Pre-Inaugural Naming

Ceremony last month:D...she is a big ship and it was

the first time I had ever sailed one that is brand new!

Yes, you do:D...I wasn't cruising when I was 40..wish

I had been....but I did go back in March on a 10 night cruise

when I turned 50:D. I only started cruising 5.5 years ago.

 

I will eventually try Solstice for a week's cruise~maybe at the

end of 2009.

Hi Lois - You are so fortunate to be able to take so many cruises in a year! Either your employer has a really great vacation plan or you're retired. :D What a fabulous time you must be having....you're either planning a cruise or on one. Happy voyages!

Diane, I am waaayyy far from being retired:eek:

I am 50 and thankfully I have been working for the same

company 18 years now:) so yes, I do get quite a bit of

vacation time.

I will be working for at least 15 more years...if not longer

the way the ecomony is going.

What if I told you I have NOTHING booked after next month's

cruise?:confused:.....not even a deposit down on another one!

Well, I'm certainly not opposed to paying LESS than the $200 per day figure I quoted. :-) That is simply the outer limit of my pain threshold. And it's about equivalent to what I would pay for a solo land-based vacation.
