How to be last off of ship?

That happened to friends of mine on Carnival last year.

They were one of the last off the ship, and took a piece of luggage they thought was theirs. My friend always checks luggage tags and she saw it wasn't hers. She looked but couldn't find theirs. They found someone from Carnival to help. Carnival figured that the owners of the other piece probably took theirs by mistake.

Carnival called the phone number from the luggage tag. They checked and found that they indeed took the wrong piece. Luckily the people were local, and they were able to get back to the pier to exchange the luggage without a problem.

Same thing happened to my Aunt and Uncle in the Phoenix airport. The Airline was able to catch the man who took the wrong luggage before they left the airport (via cell-phone), thank goodness. When he returned to the baggage claim area we ALL noticed that the suitcases were not even similar, they just had the same tags from an Online TA...In any case we all had a happy ending, even if it took an extra hour or two...

What happened to the day when all luggage needed to be checked and confirmed before leaving the airport/port terminal :(

We were in a unique position to view the disembarking process on Enchantment, in the middle part of our B2B (or consecutive cruises). Guest Relations Director Rosa Torres asked us, the night before, to be at the disembarking area at 9:45 on the last morning to begin our reboarding process for the B2B/CC.

We arrived right on time and Rosa said that there are still about 25 guests who have not departed (last call had been given 20 minutes ago) and can't be accounted for. We, as the only B2B/CC's, were to be the last off and the first to re-board at the newly renovated Pier 18. This was 18's first boarding since it had been re-done for Solstice and Freedom and Oasis class ships. EN was there for a trial run to work out any bugs.

Getting back to the disembarking . . . the crew is under pressure to get all the guests off ASAP. There is a lot to get done between cruises, and Customs and Immigration want things done pronto. And, the new guests are waiting and want to board quickly.

We stood by and watched as the 25 guests were all eventually found. The ship's onboard radio traffic was very busy. Some drunk and passed out, some loitering around, two were in sick bay, others here and there. Security found most of them and ushered them off. Finally, we being last off, punched out our Sea Passes, and were escorted by Officer Sean Jones to Pier 18. Quickly, we re-boarded and were the first guests to use the new Pier 18.

We got a view not seen by most guests, as Guest Relations, the hotel manager and security, among others, combined their efforts to clear the ship.

Believe it, there are many reasons that the disembarking is organized as it is, as you can understand. If we all co-operate and follow the ship's instructions, everyone's cruise, including those about to board, will be better.

I've only been on 3 cruises, so perhaps my experience is not typical...

No one has ever checked to make sure I am only taking my own luggage. Part of my motivation to get off the ship is to make sure my luggage is still there when I get to it :)

If you are last off the ship, there are thousands of other people who have gone past your luggage, and might mistake your luggage for theirs, or just decide they like the look of yours as well as their own. :D

I know.. paranoid. :o

Tie ribbons around the handles of your luggage ;)
