karen327 Posted December 15, 2008 #1 Share Posted December 15, 2008 We are not smokers and do not like the smell of smoke. Is smoke from smokers on nearby balconies much of a problem on these ships? Would being forward help in that situation? We will be on the Pearl
terrymtex01 Posted December 15, 2008 #2 Share Posted December 15, 2008 The further forward you are the better as there is less chance of someone being a smoker the more limited the number of balconies that are in front of you. This only applies though if the ship is moving. If you are in port or moving very slowly, then someone could be smoking above you, below you, in front of you or behind you and the wind could blow it your way. If something like this would ruin your cruise for you it might be worth you checking out Celebrity since they do not allow smoking in cabins. debjo Posted December 15, 2008 #3 Share Posted December 15, 2008 I agree, having a balcony cabin in the forward section of the ship helps...and, you might also consider the balconies that a ship might have across the back of the ship too, for the very same reasons! berwyn Posted December 15, 2008 #5 Share Posted December 15, 2008 This is from their site. What is your onboard smoking policy? Subject: Ship and Stateroom Details For all Celebrity ships, smoking is not permitted inside any stateroom or on any stateroom veranda. Cigarette smoking will only be permitted in designated indoor and outdoor areas of the ship, while cigar and pipe smoking will only be permitted in designated outdoor areas. Smoking will not be permitted in any dining venue, casino, theater, hallway, elevator or corridor. Violations to this smoking policy will result in a $250 cleaning fee being charged to the guest's onboard account and may also be addressed through Celebrity Cruises' Guest Conduct Policy. Cigarettes, cigars and pipe tobacco must be properly disposed of and never thrown overboard. A guest must be at least 18 years of age to purchase, possess or use tobacco onboard. Additionally, there is a non-smoking policy on all components of the land tour portion of all Celebrity Cruises cruisetour products. We appreciate your understanding and adherence. fin Posted December 15, 2008 #9 Share Posted December 15, 2008 I have had lighted cigarettes land on my balconey twice. One while I was actually on it. I figure they are also the chair hogs and booze smugglers, but we'll never know.
Wavesprite Posted December 15, 2008 #10 Share Posted December 15, 2008 We just got off of the Star Saturday, and some of the smoke wafting our way (we were far aft) was just disgusting..... try to stay forward if you can.
Steph27 Posted December 15, 2008 #11 Share Posted December 15, 2008 MSC Cruises also now has the same no smoking policy as Celebrity. I am taking my chances with NCL. I am dreading the smoke but the cruise is only 5 nights. I am hoping for the best. It is interesting that Apollo Mgmt which owns a large percentage of NCL also owns Oceania and Regent which have very strict no-smoking policies. time2cruise1 Posted December 15, 2008 #12 Share Posted December 15, 2008 wow i didn't know that about celebrity...are they 100% smoke free? No way. Unlike NCL they permit smoking in the bars. NCL permits smoking indoors only in your cabin or the casino. The most restrictive smoking policy is on Oceania with a single designated out door smoking area.
