Why is it an obese review?

I wondered the same thing!!! LOL! I just knew something bad was coming, but then saw the pictures of the food and I realized by the time I left this thread I had already gained 5 lbs and was starving!!! So I assumed that is what it was.. but I was just glad to see it wasn't what I thought it was going to be when I read the title!!! :p

"Picture Obese" - meaning lots of photos.

I'd be interested to know if that is what the OP meant... because obese really doesn't mean "a lot", it means excessively fat, very fat, overweight, large or bulky of body, corpulent. I really did think that it was going to be the pictures making us fat, which I thought was cute!! LMAO!!!

We just got home and the cruise was pretty darn great! I'm uploading some pictures and gathering my thoughts so I can get this started. I know some people we're pretty curious to hear the details of this cruise.

It was an 8 day cruise leaving on Saturday and the ports were San Juan, St. Thomas, Antigua, Tortola and Nassau.

Our vacation really started in full force on Thursday, Dec. 4th. Normally I am an extreme planner and packer by nature but we traveled for Thanksgiving the week before and I was just way behind. I spent the day cleaning the house and doing laundry. DH left for work at 5pm and I dropped DD off at my in-laws house. She's two and this is the first time we've ever been away from her. She took it like a champ while I cried all the way home!

DH only worked a partial day so he came home at 2am and by 3 we were off to the Indianapolis Airport. Our flight was with Air Tran which I was really nervous about after reading some reviews online. While it was a pretty basic airline it was cheap, the planes we're clean and they we're always on time. I would definitely fly with them again. We had a two hour layover in Atlanta and then we're on our way to Fort Lauderdale.

Loving your review so far. The pictures are great, and I like the details.

We are booked on this itin. on Jan 3. Can't wait to hear more!!!

LOL

I should have clarified - that was my assumption about what she meant. I have to admit - the word Obese threw me for a loop when I saw it.

However, stories and articles have been called "fat with content," meaning thick with content. So I was picturing a review that is fat with photo content.

Now I can't wait to see what the OP actually meant!

Oh so sorry guy's I didn't mean to confuse everyone with the obese thing! I just meant that there would be a lot of pictures so it may not be for the faint of bandwidth!

As for the big screen... They played several concerts throughout the day. There were three night of football and some of the movies were Transformers, The Bucket List and College Road Trip. I'll try to dig out the capers and get a full list.

I did not eat at the Sun King but our table mates did and they LOVED it. They thought it was well worth the extra money.

I believe the band on the lido deck was called Lifeline but don't hold me to it. I know they were Filipino and they were very good.

After dinner we went to the show. The comedian was Happy Cole and he was pretty funny. After the show we were pretty tired so we called it a night. We returned to our cabin and there was no towel animal , I think even poor Made was worn out! I dutifully highlighted everything we wanted to do the next day.

Sunday was a sea day. We went to the breakfast buffet and the lines were long but nothing too horrible. The omelet station was another story though. The line didn't LOOK long but people were ordering 5 or 6 omelets a piece. It was kind of hard to find a table downstairs but upstairs was always empty never having more than one or two tables occupied.

It was an absolutely beautiful day. We spent it just lounging around on deck with our iPods. A word of caution- DH and I are pretty darn white. I heard the Caribbean sun was hot and I brought SPF 30 thinking we would be fine seeing as we don't use any sunscreen at home. Well, we ended up going through two entire bottles and still ended up burnt to a crisp.

And all those fun things I highlighted? Well we never did any of them. I'm sure it was a great time but we have no regrets about missing them. I usually end up doing so much all vacation that I need another vacation when I get home, but not this time.

We had lunch at the buffet and the chicken was perfect! It was seriously the best food I had the entire cruise. Oh! For those who are wondering that is lemonade in my cup. No fruit punch this sailing. I once read that they have juice on the lido all day and just take the sings off but this wasn't true this sailing either. They did have coffee, a bunch of types of hot tea, water, lemonade and ice tea.

Tonight was the first formal night. DH wore a dark 3 piece suit. He seemed to be on par with what others were wearing. A few men wore tuxedos and some wore khaki's and a dress shirt. I didn't see anything completely inappropriate but I wasn't really looking either.

I think DH had prime rib that night but I can't remember what I ate. Our table mates got lobster and they thought it was very very small. Of course Dominick, our waiter offered them more.

Waiting in our room was our very first towel animal.

We went to the midnight comedy show and lots of people around us seemed to be offended. To be fair though it was made very clear that he would be swearing or talking about adult situations. He thought he he was funny but I couldn't fully enjoy it. The International Lounge is located aft and it was just a little too rough for me back there.

On the way back to the room we stopped at the casino and made a quick donation to Carnival. Lots of people complain about the casino being smokey. We are extremely sensitive to smoke and unless we were sitting next to someone who was smoking we didn't think it was that bad.

I'm enjoying your review :) I think this is one of the things I learned very early on in my cruise life.....1) don't pack everything but the kitchen sink, I will never use them and 2) don't highlight a cotton pickin' thing in the Capers, I'll never do any of them!! Back when I was in my 20s and had the energy of same, I'd do just about everything in the Capers for that day. Now, as you suggested, I don't want to come home and need a vacation to relax from my vacation  Today, we cruise to take it easy!!! Lay on deck. Eat. Have a DOD. Eat. Lay on deck. Have another DOD. Go to dinner. Take a nap in the cabin. Walk around a bit. Order room service. Have a DOD. Sleep. Start over the next day. Port stop. Shop. Lay on beach. Have a DOD from beach waiter. Sun tan. Go back to ship. Repeat above. I am never so RELAXED when I get home as I am when getting off a cruise ship!

Keep up the great work! Great review so far.

Thanks so much for your review and pictures. I am enjoying them as I count down to my embarkation this weekend.

I think I saw Mexican food on your plate. Did you try the new Lido deck Mexican station that used to serve Asian food? Haven't read too many reviews about it yet and was wondering if it's worth a try.

Also, if you can remember, what kinds of samples were in your cabin when you arrived? Toothpaste? Razors?

Thanks for your review. I am really enjoying your pictures. Please post more food pics and also if you have any pics of the buffet area, please post.

I will be on the Freedom in two months and can't wait.

I know there is no longer a midnight buffet, but I heard there is a chocolate buffet. What day is it and what time of day is it? Also how many deck parties at night were there?

Thanks

i was on this cruise too. been too busy to write review --- hadn't done any Christmas shopping pre-cruise. To Marysmom --- I brought two bottles of 70+ SPF lotion. My husband is a typical Irishman --- we didn't burn but we used every bit of it.

Thanks for the information. I may have more questions later. Thanks for your quick response.:)

I've been hesitating on booking this cruise for 1/3/09 cause I'd not researched Freedom that much yet...so thank you for the detailed review!! It's exactly the kind of thing I'm hoping can help me make a decision. I was on the Carnival Victory this summer out of NYC and had a terrible time with crowds and service, so was hoping that Freedom would be of a higher quality ship. Wonderful review. Keep the pics coming!!!
