Proposal Help Please!!!!

Recommended Posts

Keeper,

All the posts are wonderful... My question is are you getting a balcony... If so, I think it would be romantic if you ask as the ship is leaving port the very day you get there. As another post said, have champaign and roses preordered to the room, so when you get onboard, and to your room, the surprise will already be unfolding.. Then when the ship is setting sail and you two are alone on your balcony, sipping champaign, it is the perfect opportunity to get down on one knee. Again, like other posters, she may like the public thing, so this would not work..

GOOD LUCK -

Also where in Columbia do you two live?? I am in Frederick?

On one of our prior cruise a couple got engaged. He purchased a fake ring in the islands and then brought her to the railing and with the performance of a nervous Kramer, he opened the box, let her take a good quick glance and fumbled it causing it to of course fall overboard. She screamed and he laughed.
Dont kmow if they ever did get married

Keeper,
I'll be on that sailing! I hope I'll get to see it unfold in person after all these great ideas and the planning you're putting into it!

I don't know your fiance but being a woman I have to say that I don't like the scavenger hunt idea. Not very romantic. The ring in the bottom of the champagne glass is more romantic. I do have to change my original post and say that I like figgifumi's idea the best. Anyway you decide to do it will be romantic as long as you speak from the heart. Another way, if you want the public spectical is to get on bended knee in the middle of the Royal Promenade right after the first dinner seating is finished and ask her in front of everyone. That is the only time on that ship (or any other Voyager class ships) that it feels crowded!!! There are a lot of people down there between dinner and the first show. Again, good luck! When you get back let us know how it went.

Happy Cruising

I think you've gotten some great ideas. As a few have pointed out, the most important thing you can do is think about her as a person and what she would feel most comfortable with. I would personally prefer a private proposal but every woman is different. I like the idea of proposing on the beach in port or proposing in Portofino's. I would definitely do it by the first or second night so you can relax and enjoy your trip together. An idea I thought of was picking one of your sea days and booking her a spa day with massage, manicure and pedicure. While she is in the spa, you'll be freed up to make plans and contact the right people to handle the arrangements. Then when she's finished, she'll be looking and feeling beautiful for your dinner and proposal. Just a thought! Let us know how everything turns out.

My husband proposed to me at a restaurant by having them write on the dessert plate "Will you marry me?"
when they brought it out, he got down on his knee and proposed as the waiters were taking pictures of the moment.
It was AWESOME, and totally unexpected!

DON'T DO IT!!! Just kidding.

My advice is to make it from the heart. I would do it in a somewhat private area. Why? If you do it in public, you don't get to say what your feelings are for her. If you do it in private, you can better express you feelings.

This was the one place I fumbled. We were talking at my wife's old house, and I said something like it would be great to married to you. She said yes it would. Then we started talking and by the next weekend we were ring shopping. It did work out great though. 11 1/2 wonderful years of marriage and a wonderful daughter too.

First of all, I would do it early on the cruise! So that you reap the benefits for the rest of the cruise

My suggestion is that you do it on the first formal night. You could arrange for the waiter to bring out the ring for dessert. have the ring box surrounded by fresh flowers. Definately get on one knee! Guaranteed to be a desert she will never forget

I think everyone has great ideas. The one that scares me though is having a waiter or maitre d' bring the ring, etc. I just wouldnt feel comfortable giving it to someone to hold. (or my fiance' to be giving it to someone to hold, but if i didnt know about it, who cares..LOL) But if they dropped it by mistake and it was lost?? I generally am not paranoid like this..LOL, but cant help thinking that..

Oh sweet! Two in one! Heh. Alright, here is my suggestion. I've attached a link to where you can find a piece of writing of mine. In it, a character proposes on the first night of a cruise. Maybe that's a good idea on how to do it.

http://messages.cruisecritic.com/2/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=927093444&f=408097554&m=524106841&r=524106841#524106841

Best of luck! E-mail me with how it goes, I might have to tweak the scene in my novel!

Sorry it has taken me so long to telling you guys what I am going to do. (For those of you that care that is ) Okay so here is what is the most likely scenario:

I am going to start the cruise off by getting the romance package. That way when we get to the room things will get off to a good start.
Then, on the next day I am going to send her to the spa, to get pampered. While she is doing this I am going to continue to try and get the Captain to help me out and if not have us sit at the Captain's table (which is doubtful, because I am just a lowly middle class citizen, 2 years out of college 25 yr old), I will at least try to get him to make an annoucement during dinner (this will be the first formal night so it should be nice, plus I think its the captains champagne gala). Then when the captain has announced that I have something to say, I will get down on one knee and pop the question (and hopefully not my knee!! I have a torn ACL that should be corrected by cruise time!!!! ) And since I have gotten the romance package there should be sweets in our room waiting for us. What do you guys think??? Hey if anyone has some clout to help pull any of this off I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks for your help!!!!

P.S. By the way, I am in the second seating. This will still work right????

Cam- were you on my crusie?? I was proposed to in front of the camera on one of the formal nights. It was very nice to have the pictures to show family and friends that were not with us. We had about 10-15 pictures to choose from-including the ones with tears of joying flowing down my cheeks! Good Luck!!

Make sure that you do it in front of the Web Cam and tell us the time so we can all see.

It sounds wonderful!!! She will be thrilled! I'm not sure if you can get to be at the Captain's Table but it wouldn't hurt to try; the worst that they can do is say no. Please tell us how you actually pop the question and how things went when you get back. You needn't give us aaaaaaalllllll the details, just the important points!!! Good luck.

If your wanting to propose at the captain's table, talk to your travel agent. The sooner the better. Maybe they can help you out. Also I would call RCCL directly and ask them if they could arrange for you to be placed at the captains table that night. Don't wait. I would take care of this detail ASAP. Good Luck

I don't have anything to add to the proposal suggestions but would like to offer some advice about the ring: Please make sure you insure the ring before you go! I had one customer give the ring to his fiancee on a cruise and she wore the ring snorkling even though it was loose and lost it. (It was insured, thank goodness!) Also, unless she has already pointed out rings that she likes, purchase a beautiful diamond in a plain solitare setting and tell her that you will shop together for a more elaborate setting if she would like to. If you pick out a fancy ring and she doesn't really like it she probably won't tell you and wouldn't you rather have her wear a ring that she thinks is beautiful?

Hi Keeper420,

I also proposed in the last year and a half and wanted to add to the previous poster's comments about the ring. If you are going to fly to the ship please consider where you will keep the ring. I carried mine on, I did not want to check it through, and I was worried that my carry-on would be screened and the ring displayed prematurely. I took the ring out of the gift box, secured the ring to a clip inside my backpack with a note indicating an engagement ring and to be discrete. Fortunately I did not get screened! I proposed privately on our cabin's balcony with champagne and flowers at sunset of the first day. She accepted, it definitely would have put a damper on the rest of the trip had she declined. Good luck!
