cuyahoga11 Posted December 28, 2008 #3 Share Posted December 28, 2008 Has anyone ever slept with the balcony doors open and do you think it's safe? I am not sure what would be unsafe but we do it all the time.

racepoint Posted December 28, 2008 #6 Share Posted December 28, 2008 Always sleep with the balcony door open...the sound of the crashing waves is so relaxing... have they changed the balcony door configuration? It's been about 10 years since I sailed on Carnival (Triumph), but the doors then swung outward vs. sliding, and it would have been impossible to keep them open at night. At the time, I was told that it was configured that way to more effectively temper the air conditioning.

We just stick the rubber door stopper in the door jamb and it works fine...some swear by the bungee method.

Cobra1365 Posted December 28, 2008 #10 Share Posted December 28, 2008 We do...BUT.... I don't open it all the way or the crashing waves becomes too much. I open it about a third of the way and it works perfect. Just wedge the small balcony table in the door.

GottaLuvCruising Posted December 28, 2008 #12 Share Posted December 28, 2008 We sleep with the balcony door open most of the time. On one cruise, we moved our mattress out onto the balcony and slept there (aft mini-suite, huge balcony). The potential issues are smoke invasion from neighbors and lack of A/C in stateroom with door open.

MrPete Posted December 28, 2008 #14 Share Posted December 28, 2008 What are you imagining would be unsafe about it? Unfortunately, there are still jerks who flick their lit cigarettes off the sides of the ship. Personally, I don't want that humid salt air in "my" pillow and bedding. Catrin Posted December 28, 2008 #15 Share Posted December 28, 2008 Sleeping with the sounds of the waves crashing is a highlight of having a balcony room! We do leave it all the way open, however... we use our luggage strap and keep it about half way. It does get really humid, however. So the further south we go, we are less likely to keep it open.
