money back from OBC

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't it depend on how the credit got to your account?

For example if you put the credit there yourself or was given as a gift, I think the rules are different to OBC provided by a T/A.

I'm sure one of the seasoned cruisers will supply the answer :)

Sometimes they will give it back and sometimes not. If it is refund money from the fuel charge Princess has stated it can be taken out in cash. The best bet would be to get an accounting the last night and if you have any left take it out as cash in the casino. It will cost 3%, but it is better than nothing.

I beginning to believe that different ship make their own rules. There are some TA web sites that are forced to advertised "cabin credit cannot be used for gratuities or in the casino" but questioning Princess on a number of voyages they all say it's not so. It should prove interesting to see how they handle the fuel rebate since you gave them cash up front & now they might be charging you 3% to get it back. I'm sure they would prefer you spend it on board. :p

The best way to handle excess shipboard credit is to go the last night onboard and take it out in the casino. If you do a slot transfer, you can put the excess on your casino bank, and then just go the cashiers cage in the casino and cash it out.

Saves wondering if it will be returned, and you leave the ship with a zero balance!

I have ship credit purchased as a gift from Princess, I have my receipt & plan to take it with me in case any problems arise. I also have a ship credit where I purchased the cruise & it included an on board credit. Should my receipt showing that be good enough in case I get on board & they don't show it?

I've never not had expected credit show on my account, but just to save yourself some stress, why not give Princess a call before you leave and ask.

Thanks Pia, BTW I enjoyed your Live from The Ruby post. I wish someone was doing it this week.

As far as my OBC, I'm not worried about the one with Princess, just the one I got from the online TA I used. Will Princess confirm that if I call since I didn't book with them? Sorry to the OP for getting a bit off topic. I just happened to read this & it reminded me of my question.

When CCL and Princess originally made the case for eliminating the fuel surcharge based on the cost of oil for 30 days prior to 5 days prior to your cruise - they stated - If you have already made your final payment it will be issued as a OBC. If you didn't use it it could be taken out in cash. I have a hardcopy of this in my file.

They have a record of all credit. I know that, because I always call before a cruise to verify that my OBC includes the shareholder credit and they give me the total amount listed which includes everything. When we board, I always check our accounts on the 2nd day just to be sure that everything is in place.

Thanks Pia, I just called & all my credit is showing. I'll just be sure to take my receipts with me in case any problems arise. I can't wait to get on board The Ruby & hope to catch a glimpse of Captain McCharming.

He is exactly that, Gracie. :D Enjoy your cruise.

either way...how big is the OBC...just tips alone are almost $100 for a 7 day trip...we havent ever been even close to getting any OBC $ back

Tips for a seven day are $73.50/PP, but some folks have lots more than $147.00 shipboard credit.

The original fuel supplement amendment published by CCL states "If guests do not use all of the shipboard credit, they can receive the balance after the cruise." Kind of ambiguous "after the cruise" - does that mean while still onboard or what?

But many get a lot more. Our next cruise we have more than $700 shipboard credit on, but there won't be any left I am sure.

Ask three different cruie line reps a question like that and you'll get four different answers, unless you booked thru a TA. Then one or more of the reps tell you to have the TA call.

Fortunately Steve, I've always gotten the correct answer. I don't tell them how much I'm supposed to have; I let them tell me. :)

I am thinking of using my remaining points on the Princess Credit Card to get a $50 spa credit. Does this have to be used in the spa (massage, facial, etc) or can it be used for OBC ? Could it be used for a hair cut or manicure/pedicure? After so many cruises you would think I would know this, but never run into this issue before and can't find it online - we usually just have OBC which can be used anywhere...

Thanks

I haven't yet redeemed anything from my Princess credit card, but as I understand it, a spa credit is just that; a credit to be used only in the spa. I'm not going to redeem until I have 40,000 points, which will at least give me $500 off a cruise.

Thanks Pia - I already redeemed the 40,000 points for the $500 OBC, but have about 7000 more I wanted to use - but not sure if I can get a haircut or pedicure or if I have to get a 'spa treatment' like a facial or massage, which I don't plan on doing.

Anyone else have experience with this?????

I would think that the spa credit would be for anything you can buy at the spa. That of course would be mani, pedi, haircut, etc.

Since you already redeemed, I see that you spend money faster than I do. LOL
