Cabana cost at Half Moon Cay

I have a question as to how far from the ship the cabanas actually are. I have limited mobility due to arthrits and wonder just how far I would need to trek to get to a cabana. I do have a scooter that will be going with me but I doubt it would be able to move on the beach. I am able to do some walking but really not any long distances. Thanks for any help you can give. :)

HAL will be more than happy to give you assistance getting to the cabana. They have a sand wheelchair which can be used to get you to the cabana if necessary.

I do believe that I could take a nap in one of those loungers. :D

And I believe I did! The day couldn't have been that short any other way!

Twinkletoes........those first shots were of OUR cabana; and they're better than any we took. Thanks. Wasn't it a blast?

We had SO much fun! And it turned out to be a nice day. I was a bit skeptical with the way things looked that morning.

As soon as we got to our cabana, we took off for a walk. I took lots of pictures, but most of my photos had people in them, so I hated to post those (which is why I have a lot of photos from "behind" the cabanas). No one was in your cabana yet, so I walked up and took a few close up photos. :)

It was nice meeting you! Hopefully our paths will cross on another cruise. :)

We are thinking of renting a cabana, because our grandparents will be along on the cruise. There will be 7 of us total. I know the 3 Teens will be busy tanning, and will only come and "visit" us in the cabana once in a while. So...do I just book it for 4 people, (is that a problem)or do i need to book all the extra persons. put it this way...the grandparents won't be using the snorkels, kids will. kids won't be using the chairs, parents will...etc. Is the pop supplied?

I'm slipping! Another post to me I missed. Getting old is a bummer! Sorry about that...

Someone else answered your question...and I agree, I'd book for four. For four people, you'll get a certain amount of pop and bottled water. I don't recall what was on the sheet, but you get to order the types you want. If you want more, you can order some from the cabana guys that roam around filling drink orders.

In 2007 we didn't see any cabana guys roaming around, but in 2009 we did. We had a butler both times, so that's part of the reason I don't remember exactly how many drinks were part of the deal because we were able to have as many as we wanted. I did take the extra 3 cans of pop and 1 bottled water from the refrigerator, and took it back with us to our cabin.

In your opinions, which is the best cabana color to rent. By best I mean...best locvation for the rest room, cafe but don't want to be over run with the other tourist either. Maybe be should just get one the farthest down the best so we won't have hoards of people camped out in front of our cabana.

What do you think?

Thanks, carla

Are these the cabanas that each cruise line uses that visits the island? The new furniture looks nice..just wondering if they remove the "nice furniture" when Carnival guests arrive..maybe it is only used for the other cruise lines...ha.

For the cabana it's $45 per person (under 2 years-free). If you want to add on the butler package, it's an additional $100 (under 2 years-free). :)

===================================================

So is the cabanaa rental a flat fee of $225 and then $45 per person on top of that??? For four people it would be :$405:eek:

Not sure if it is worth $405.00

How much is the buffet lunch? I am assuming it is not included with the cabana rental.. Thanks, Carla

No, $225 for 4 people. Only if you had more than 4 than you would $45 pp . No cost for buffet lunch but you do have to go to the buffet area to get it, its not brought to you.

We loved our green cabana. Very near the bathrooms and the path to the buffet but away from the crowds.

Does anyone know the actual price for the private oasis cabana....and how many people....the info I did find is old and the info I got from carnival, from two different calls, is different.

One said up 10 people $1195 pluse $95 per person after 10, then we got up to 12 people for $1295 plus $95 per person after 12...

Does anyone have any up to date info on the Private Oasis Cabana...

Thanks for any help...

Like grandmato4 mentioned, you pay $225 for the cabana and that for 4 people. I'm not sure what Carnival's BBQ is like, but I'd bet it's very similar, if not the same, as HAL's.

Here's my Webshot page that has pictures from our day on HMC. We walked around the entire area taking pictures of things. We had the turquoise cabana the last two times we were on the island. The last time we were there (2/1/09), it was chilly when we arrived, so many people never even got off the ship even though it turned out to be a very nice day.

Here's the Private Oasis Pricing as it was listed on our HAL cruise a couple of weeks ago. I am not sure what Carnival charges, or if they offer the upgrade packages. I just find it mind-boggling that the one package is almost 6 grand and this is in addition to the basic Oasis cost of $1,195.

But if you rent the Oasis for the basic cost, and split it between 12 people, that wouldn't be a bad deal at all. We've not seen the big one up close, but it looks like it would be a great way to spend the day on HMC if you have a large group.

We like the turquoise one which is #3, but if you want privacy, I'd go for one that's a bit more up the beach. As far as I know, only HAL and Carnival use HMC. The new furniture is nice compared to what they had when we were there in 2007. I would imagine that when Carnival is there they use the same furniture, at least I would think they would. :)

Here's a photo of the map we received when we were there a couple of weeks ago. If you click on the "full size" on the top right, the picture will enlarge quite a bit. I know there's a restroom behind the turquoise cabana, but I thought I remember hearing someone say there was one near the pink/green cabana area, but I don't remember seeing one and it's not listed on this map.

I have a question, it's a stupid one but I have to ask. Do you pay the 225 for all day rental? Or is that just for 1/2 the day. Thanks

It's for all day. We left the ship at 9:00 and returned on the last tender, which I think was 3:15. We had a butler and 9:00 was the earliest the butler could pick us up, but I know that I heard announcements that tendering to shore started around 8:00.

And no question is a stupid one. :) I always have a million questions prior to visiting a new destination. I like as much advance information as I can gather so when we're visiting a port, we can make the most of our short time there, and our $$ we have to spend at that port.

Thanks so much for the information. I'm thinking about doing this on our family cruise next year. We have two small kids going and I think they will like that. Do you know which cabana's are close to the kids area?

The lower numbered ones are closest to the kids' water area. Not sure of the colours, but Twinkletoes' map shows them pretty well. If you're reserving on the HAL website, the colours are listed in order from closest to the action to the farthest away. I understand Carnival books by number, so you want a low number to be close to the kids' action.

Here's the list of cabanas by number and color (that HAL uses)...with the #1 Taupe being the closest to the kids area. Like Koshlong mentioned, I'd go with a lower number if you want to be near the kids area. We were in the #3 Turquoise cabana and there's a tree next to it, so we had shade most of the day, which we wanted. I'm not sure about the other cabanas, but if you're looking for shade, #3 is shaded.

I have some better pictures that I don't have on my webshots that will give you a better idea of how far it is from the #1 cabana and the kids area. I'll upload those and then post them for you.

Half Moon Cay Cabanas

1. Taupe

2. Blue

3. Turquoise

4. Orange

5. Sky Blue

6. Purple

7. Peach

8. Pink

9. Eggshell

10. Green

11. Gray

12. Yellow

13. Terracotta

14. Red

15. Violet

Here are the pictures. We walked as far as the #1 cabana, took a few pictures and then walked the other direction, so I don't know exactly how far away the kids area is from the cabanas, but in this picture it looks like the play area is not real close to the first cabana. I don't believe I was zooming in at all in the picture below. Once you open this picture, if you look up to the right of the page, you'll see a "full size" icon. If you click that, the picture will enlarge even more and give you a better idea of what's what in that area.

Here's a picture that I zoomed in a little on...

Here's a picture of the #1 Taupe cabana and the beach area. The kids area isn't in view, but I think it's just outside the picture on the right side. If you click the "full size" icon, you'll get a much better size of photo. The #1 Taupe cabana is on the first cabana you see (on the left). The blue building behind it (it looks like it has eyes) is the massage hut.

A good view of the play area...

Another picture of the play area...

Once you open these photos, click on the "full size" icon on the top right and you'll get an even bigger picture.

I hope this helps. :)
