Slightly embarassing question for the dolls, and guys I suppose

Just curious.....

If you're youthful looking or otherwise, and someone notes you as single even though you may not be, do you find yourself constantly getting hit on by cruise staff/crew members/dining staff/maitre d's or entertainers when you go on cruises? (not specific to Princess ships).

How do you handle this if this makes you uncomfortable? E.g. being approached by someone? If you report this person, does this person get removed from the ship, demoted from whatever position he/she has or only 40 lashes with a wet noodle?

I won't lie -- I've been flattered in some past and also annoyed in other circumstances.

These happened before boyfriend.

One instance on the Dawn -- I was approached by someone who *insisted* we exchange home addresses. This person literally just came up, asked if I wanted coffee and then kept saying "What's your home address, give me your address, I'll give you mine" and I'd never seen this person before.

I wanted him to get me some coffee though, but I just said "I have to go" and then made a b-line for the door (I was on the Promenade deck). No way in hell was he going to get any person info from me. Wasn't even good looking.

Another instance, I can't remember which ship, but I was sitting by myself trying to rearrange my bag that I had with me one afternoon in that area typically outside the Explorer's lounge that has a few chairs and tables.

I got cornered by someone who decided, not only would he corner me, but blow cigarette smoke literally in my face. I couldn't believe it and I was surprised he could smoke there (could he? I don't smoke so I don't know where the designated ship smoking spots are).

And other than climbing over him, climbing over the table or getting up and standing on the chair I was sitting in to climb over that, I couldn't breathe.

This putz literally blew smoke in right in my face and had the audacity to ask for my email address (it was one of those instances where you wanted to make up an email address but you couldn't think of a fake one...).

So I did what anyone would do, gave him a serious lecture on lung cancer, mouth cancer, emphyzema, shortness of breath, cancer of the esaphogus, the fact that 2nd hand smoke causes cancer and that 20 years down the line, if that, he will not be able to walk up a flight of stairs and that he'd better get used to hauling an oxygen tank around with him wherever he goes.

I guess he was trying to give me cancer. It is the silent killer.

Another time out of curiousity, I got my own special "behind the scenes tour" of the kitchen by someone in the dining room and the offices where the dining room staff attend to their matters. It's like a confusing bizarre maze --you go in through the double kitchen doors in the dining room, walk around the galley and somehow wind up upstairs.

And I never knew that the kitchen cleaning crew primarily come from India.

If you've ever sat in an area in the dining room that has a door that maitre' d's and other tux wearing guys occasionally come out of -- behind that Door Number 1 are offices, with desktop computers and sometimes a small cd player/radio where that Eurotrash technomusic might play -- with memos laying around to the entire staff -- which crew member is harboring a fish tank in their cabin (no fish tanks allowed), which dining room server is not doing well and is under a third review and if his/her performance does not improve than he/she will get the iron Princess boot, papers on which dining room person is leaving the ship at the end of this particular cruise etc......

And this person who invited me into one of these offices liberally got glasses of both red and white wines (he drank the reds, I drank a white)....I wondered if he pilfered from some passenger's stash......

Another time, I was approached by one of the ship's entertainers -- saw this person perform time and again in the atrium and a lounge or two. Never really paid attention to him until one day I wandered around alone on the Aloha Deck (deck 11?) saw him come out of his cabin punch drunk.

He wasn't all together there and asked what I was doing there. I told him I was just exploring the ship and he asked if I wanted to "come inside." I asked him if he lived there and he said "Come in and see." I just peeked my head in out of curiousity to see what his cabin looked like before he started to lay on the empty compliments. He must have been so drunk because I could smell the alcohol on him and he had a very very bloated red face.

I just said no thank you, told him I had to be somewhere and left. And he went back into his cabin, probably to pass out.

No flames, just curious about anyone who's had any "personal" experiences and funny, I was able to not get personal with any of these people -- who knows where they've been before me and where they'll be after. There were a few more encounters but too lazy to write them right now.

I can't remember which ship (possibly one of the Sitmar fleet), but an Italian asst. waiter from the dining room invited me off the ship to "site-see" the next day in port. He didn't speak a word of English so he had to have the head waiter do his speaking. All he kept saying was "yes, yes, yes yes." To which I said "no, no, no, no." The head waiter said the asst. was in love with me because of my blonde hair. Now there's a reason to run off with him.:D :D

I'm sure if you reported this kind of thing by a crew member they would be boiled in oil . There must be dozens of pages in they're employee handbook stating in great detail how improper this is . As for it happening to me ( by some hot looking female ) ? Only in my wildest dreams . Thanks for the posting ,it was a real hoot . :D

I have read this post before, just can't remember where?

I posted a few bits on this in other posts where another poster posted a post about -- I think it was about seeing strange things on a ship. I can't remember exactly which, but I mentioned about the person who wanted to exchange home addresses and what was behind those secret doors in the dining room.

Allow myself to introduce...myself.

Heh -- have ever been to Italy? I noticed that Italian men really love blond hair -- and when I was on vacation there I asked someone why that was and he said because most Italians are not born true blondes, and the blondes that are, are bottled so blondes are somewhat exotic to them.

But that doesn't explain why celeb chef Mario Batali is a red -- total freak of nature! lol

I can't tell about my last cruise, it was only a week ago, and they are still on the ship!! So I will tell this one. A few years back, about 5, DH and I had a table for two. We had a waiter from Turkey. I enjoy getting to know the waiters on our cruises, so I was friendly and really enjoying the small table we had. After the first night, I would order, and he would say "no you need this", and I would get what he wanted me to have. Dickie would get whatever he ordered. For dessert I ordered something, and he said "no, chocolate cake". Dickie got his dessert. So this continued for a couple of nights, and I enjoyed everything I got, but Dickie was getting a little ticked off!! The next night was Prime rib, and no one messes with my Prime Rib, so I ordered and I told him "bring it"!!! Dickie ordered it too!! I got it, but mine was twice the size of Dickies!! I almost went under the table, but this was getting fun!! Then he started waiting for me at the door and walked me in to the table!! And the ordering went back to his choice, with the cake. Then came the Lobster. I got 6, and Dickie got two!! Dickie lost it!!! When this guy got his color back, the week continued the same!! On the last night I asked to get pictures with them and the waiter gave the camera to another waiter to take the picture. He pulled out my chair for me to get up, And Dick got up. The waiter said "Oh, he is going to be in it too"??? We got through that night and the next morning waiting to get off the ship, we went into the dining room for breakfast. Guess who??? I ordered an english and a side of bacon. He smiled and said OK. He came back, and I had 6 english muffins and a side of bacon. Dick switched cruiselines!!! :D

Tell me you didn't get attacked in your tux!!!! No fibbin, now!! ;) :p

Well there was this SF/Alaska/SF cruise in 91 when my wife got seasick on the second night out. It was formal night and we hit a rough patch of water and probably a third of the ship got sick.. I ate alone, talked to the lady wine steward during dinner and caught the eye to two elderly sisters at the next table. Afterwards, as I wandered from bar to bar and into the Casino, they were right behind me.. They followed me until I returned to my stateroom.. I told my wife I was being stalked. She laughed.. *LOL* During the remainder of the cruise my wife and I ran into them constantly and on the final formal night, after dinner while dancing, they walked in.. My wife reached over and whispered that I should ask them both to dance which I did.. :)
