5waldos Posted January 3, 2009 #1 Share Posted January 3, 2009 Is it possible to rearrange rooms to your own ideas of how you want it? Or are things tied down in some way? As I look at pictures of the room we have (7442 Conquest) I keep wanting to put the bed in another configuration. What will they do if the interior decorator in me comes out? trock Posted January 3, 2009 #2 Share Posted January 3, 2009 Can not be done.. the headboard/nightables are built in.. If the bed is actually made of two twins they can be separated.. In fact I believe the only movable piece of furniture is the small cocktail table and the otterman or vanity seat.. I dont think the room stewart would appreciate it though..if it were possible.. (yea.. the thought entered my mind briefly too.. frustrated interior designer.... i wanted my bed to be in front of the balcony door lol)
Cruise Cat Posted January 3, 2009 #3 Share Posted January 3, 2009 A lot of rooms on cruise ships are configurable. That is how they fit a married couple in as well as two singles. Many times, when you see those pictures of a queen size bed, it is not really a queen; but two singles pushed together. The end tables move too (in the middle if singles, or on either side for the queen configuration). It depends on the ship and the category of room. In general, the older ships are more configuarble than the new ones. Another tip: You will see that coffee table in front of the sofa in some rooms. Underneath is a lever, that allows you to raise it up so that you can eat off of it.

Thirsty Cruiser Posted January 3, 2009 #7 Share Posted January 3, 2009 My first cruise - my honeymoon cruise - I was disappointed to see that we had been given a room with separate beds. Bound and determined to sleep with my new bride, I grabbed a butter knife from the buffet and unscrewed one of the beds from the floor. Each night, I would slide the bed over, and each morning, I would slide it back. Of course, had I asked the steward, he would have converted the beds for us using this contraption they had without moving the beds (old ship). So, depending on how ambitious you are, you certainly can move things around. Nowadays, you may need to pack power tools to get the job done, however. :D
yearnin4cruisin Posted January 3, 2009 #8 Share Posted January 3, 2009 Well- pooh. I want one bed against the wall so they are L-shaped. No fair! Less fun! That may still very well work. You'll see a reading light on the wall across the room if the bed gets moved there at times.

JMS920 Posted January 3, 2009 #10 Share Posted January 3, 2009 I just did b2b on the Inspiration. Being on it for nine days we wanted it comfortable for us. There were 3 of us with 2 adjoining rooms. We figured we would have more floor space if we moved the beds along the walls. They moved easily and we did it ourselves. We asked our steward but he didn't seem to understand. So it is no problem. Nightstands were movable also.

5waldos Posted January 3, 2009 Author #14 Share Posted January 3, 2009 The table thing makes me reconsider the switch we made in rooms last night. Oh well- breakfast in bed is supposed to be in bed, and hors dourves (sp?) on the balcony are supposed to be on the balcony. I doubt that we will be sitting around in the room watching tv and having dinner. At least I sure hope not. So, I shall bring my power tool set (do you suppose I make do with a jig saw, or will I have to pack the circular saw???) and redo the room when we arrive. Perhaps we'll move the TV and closets while we are at it. Once I get started I often forget to stop!:) I'll have that room looking the way I want and the room guy (who I never saw on my last cruise, although his/her efforts were appreciated) can just yell at me- it will be toooooo late! Cathy I was on quite a few before I knew that you could raise those oval tables up. My wife and I went from our room into the in-laws room and saw their's was real high. I made comment on it's height at which point my wife looked at me like I was from the planet Mongo and then explained it to me. When we got back to the room, I had to start moving it up and down of course!:D
5waldos Posted January 3, 2009 Author #16 Share Posted January 3, 2009 The one sitting in front of me in my living room does the same. They really are wonderful if you are eating in front of the tv (on occassion) or writing or drawing, etc.

Kaboochi Posted January 3, 2009 #20 Share Posted January 3, 2009 It's a cruise, a vacation - why spend the time moving furniture, you do that at home. Except for putting the beds together or apart and raising the coffee table just enjoy. For 5 or 7 days away from home I have no desire to redesign the room, I'm on a cruise!!!!!!!!! A better use of time is in the pool, the spa, casino or at a show.

5waldos Posted January 3, 2009 Author #24 Share Posted January 3, 2009 But nobody has advised me as to whether I'll get by with the jig saw or should plan for the circular saw yet!
Umbarger Posted January 3, 2009 #25 Share Posted January 3, 2009 I travel with my mom who is disabled. We always have to move the furniture around in the cabin. On our last Carnival Spirit cruise we moved the beds and bedside tables every which way so mom was able to maneuver better inside the cabin. We confused the room steward so bad but he understood. :D
