RCI Visa Credit Card

You actually can do this. If you have a high enough credit limit, you can get up to 2000USD a day from the casino.

Figure you do a 12 night Panama Canal in a D balcony with airfare, 1 night hotel stays pre and post cruise, and transfers, you're looking at $7,220 for two people. Add to that $500 of RCI-Brand excursions, $750 from the bar and wine cellar, $500 worth of tips and onboard purchases, and you're looking at a total of $9000. Thats 18,000 points. Now, add to that your casino withdrawls (2000x12x2) and you've got a credit card bill of $57,000 for your vacation, and 114,000 points on your card. Add pay off the housesitter and all the other stuff you bought while in port, and you've got yourself a buy one get one free deal.

Kinda neat, huh?

You could do it though, if like us, taking a cruise is a big thing and we're just saving for this cruise. Don't know when or if after this we'll cruise again, and don't know if it will be on RCCL, but it will probably be a few years at least. So basically trying to accumulate coupons for now.

One thing I am thinking of (is this a good idea?) is paying off the cruise final payment early. Since this would be about $2500 including insurance for the 5 of us, double points, that would be a $50 coupon right there! Should I pay a month or so early to have time to get that last coupon?

Hey London, Canada, if you're still following this thread, I'm just down the grand old 401 near Leamington and I would love to have your coupons for our sailing this year. Our C&A magazine subscription ran out just before this issue and they are supposed to be sending us the coupons but I'm not all that confident they'll get here. If you've still got yours, drop me an email at mldgood@hotmail.com Please put C&A coupons in the subject line so I don't delete you! Thanks a bunch

I looked at my statement at I saw my interest rate was 19%...I called customer service who stated that I was late on a payment therefore I the interest rate went up. They reverted the payment back down..but now I am going to pay off the card and apply for a fixed rate card.

I don't know what the percentage fee for a cash advance is, and I would imagine that it varies with your credit history and APR. That being said, if you charge your account at the casino on the ship, it is not charged to your account as a cash advance, it is lumped in with all your other charges at the end of the cruise, and they are all charged as one transaction.

Yes, there is a federal law requiring your bank to report cash transactions greater than $10,000. The form goes to the DEA, not the IRS, though. It's designed to make it harder to smuggle drugs into the states.

I'm not sure that they'd care if we were. MBNA pays for all the freebies, not RCI, so I'd imagine that its all gravy to them. The more time we spend on their boats, the more they make in the long run!

The guy I spoke to was Dean Manning at 1-800-446-7048, ext 77548. Sure if he can't help you or isn't there, whoever picks up should be able to.

I have over 50K for a free 3-4 cruise. What is included, just the cruise fare, not port charges? Also, can you pay a smaller difference to upgrade to a balcony if available?

This is the first time I'll be redeeming points.

Thanks for any input.
