tiffstulips Posted January 7, 2009 #1 Share Posted January 7, 2009 Has anyone ever got a great last minute deal on their cruise? Anyone had their bags packed and booked and sailed within 2 weeks? I am thinking about doing it......
JanineM Posted January 7, 2009 #2 Share Posted January 7, 2009 For our first cruise we booked 18 days before sailing and got an excellent fare. And this was during Spring Break! Since then I've tracked when prices seem to go up, and my totally unscientific, non-statistical sampling says that fares go up within 2 weeks of sailing ... so you may want to start watching this yourself. ChevyCruiser Posted January 7, 2009 #3 Share Posted January 7, 2009 Has anyone ever got a great last minute deal on their cruise? Anyone had their bags packed and booked and sailed within 2 weeks? I am thinking about doing it...... I did this a little further out than the two week timeframe - I think the countdown was 31 days when I confirmed the cruise - but I scored a five night cruise on the Navigator in a cabin by myself for $359. I caught the offer just right, booked an inside guarantee and was assigned a promenade inside.

tiffstulips Posted January 7, 2009 Author #5 Share Posted January 7, 2009 I would love to get a deal like that! I would like to sail with my DH and teen daughters sometime in Feb. I will watch around 14 days. Is it a problem to get cruise documents that late in the game?
firstplacechef Posted January 7, 2009 #6 Share Posted January 7, 2009 I booked a 3 night on Monarch about a month out and got a great price of 148.00pp the next day it went up to 259.00pp! Glad I was checking the internet that day.
The Big Booper Posted January 7, 2009 #7 Share Posted January 7, 2009 I would love to get a deal like that! I would like to sail with my DH and teen daughters sometime in Feb. I will watch around 14 days. Is it a problem to get cruise documents that late in the game? We booked the Explorer Holiday 12 night sailing 12/21. There were all kinds of guaranty promotions, starting with an inside for $999.00 (for a holiday trip, very low). The sale started after the Thanksgiving holiday, was for NY residents only, and sold a 100 cabins in 3-4 days. All we got were e-docs. Ya got to check every day. jpg1747 Posted January 7, 2009 #8 Share Posted January 7, 2009 I booked my solo OV (Cat. G Deck 3) January 16 3-day on the Majesty on December 29 for $246 ($282 including tax).
soakedbythesea Posted January 7, 2009 #9 Share Posted January 7, 2009 We just got a 7 day cruise to Bahamas for $299 each, which has a $50 per cabin credit - couldn't stay home for much less than that, right? We are to sail out of Charleston on Norwegian Majesty on Jan 24, so we'll know soon if this was a good deal. I wanted to see Atlantis & swim with dolphin, so these were both available & booked it just before Christmas - The price appears to be $329 now. Let's see, that works out to about daily to $105 for both + drinks + gratuity + excursions + gambling + gifts or maybe $250/day  Still not a bad deal to keep us entertained and out of trouble. Always seemed to get soaked at sea. Maybe the casino will be better this time around, as I only recouped about 1/2 last cruise. Have Fun, John
Cruiser0908 Posted January 7, 2009 #10 Share Posted January 7, 2009 I booked the 4 night Bahamas on Monarch of the Seas about 70 days before sail date of 1/19/09 and got a solo, inside cabin on deck 6 price of $186.50 (total of $259.50) and will be receiving the $40 fuel supplement as an OBC. What a deal!!:D One advantage of being over 55, I love the "senior" discounts. I was already going to be in FL visiting relatives so had an airline ticket and just needed to pay a $75 change fee.......still a great price on air as I booked it in Sept. I only saw that price for one day, so I grabbed it and couldn't find anyone else interested in going, so I'm doing my first solo cruise. Can't wait to escape the WI winter. maggieq Posted January 7, 2009 #11 Share Posted January 7, 2009 That's how we booked the IOS. We could never afford the prices they were originally charging for this cruise. I keep looking all the time.

ChevyCruiser Posted January 9, 2009 #13 Share Posted January 9, 2009 I would love to get a deal like that! I would like to sail with my DH and teen daughters sometime in Feb. I will watch around 14 days. Is it a problem to get cruise documents that late in the game? Regarding cruise documents, with the short time frame paper documents were not an option. I reviewed my documents online and all I printed out was my Set Sail Pass. I'm rolling my bag on myself, so I didn't need to mess with luggage tags, but I could've printed them out myself. With there no longer being any incentive to book a next cruise on board, I'm going to start cruising last-minute now in order to get a good price. I can still use my shareholder benefit and Visa points no matter how low the price is!
BroncosFan2010 Posted January 9, 2009 #14 Share Posted January 9, 2009 I don't know about last minute, but we got an E1 balcony for $540 pp for our seven day Southern Caribbean on the Serenade on Feb. 28th. We were thrilled. What a deal that was, and only 1 day at sea!
khfadpi Posted January 9, 2009 #15 Share Posted January 9, 2009 We booked LOS on 12/14 for the 12/27 cruise. We just got back last Sat. I did a solo cruise in 1997 on the Monarch and had a great time. The nice thing about cruising is that you are never alone, unless that's what you want. I did excursions through the ship. Have a great time!
polodad Posted January 9, 2009 #17 Share Posted January 9, 2009 Normally we book our cruises waaaay in advance, like our last 1 was booked onboard a year ahead. This time we got an urge & booked a balcony guarantee for Liberty 2/7 on sunday (5 weeksbefore sailing) for $849 afyter platinum discount. On Wed they assigned us a hump junior suite. Best cabin we've had & shortest booking time.

dolfandude Posted January 11, 2009 #20 Share Posted January 11, 2009 I booked the Monarch for a 4 day back in November for $169 for a deck 2 OV. Did it during a WOW sale and saved an extra $75 on top of that. Upgraded two weeks later to a deck 7 OV for $30 more per person. So we ended up paying less than $400 total for our cruise. Two weeks before sailing the price had gone up to $389 per person! Just got back yesterday. Great crew. Great cruise. I've been looking at the 90 day cruise ticker on a certain travel site. It shows discounted cruises within the next 90 days. Great page.
findutah Posted January 11, 2009 #21 Share Posted January 11, 2009 We got a Oceanview on the IOS for 8 days for $549.00 Each and Friends got a Inside for $449.00. Since we booked the next cruise we get $100 onboard credit for us and our friends, also they applied $100 oboard credit to our account for RCCL stock ownership (which i didnt think was combinable but they combined it). We also got a C&A coupon for $50 if we booked our cabin in the month of December. And on top of that we Book our cruise with Discover Cards preferred agency which allows us to double our cash back bonus from $80 to $160. We also have a Southwest Visa which we have earned 4 free flights on, so our friends are buying 2 of the flights for $200 each and we are flying for free. Here is how our Cruise on IOS priced out with all of our discounts: $1250 for Oceanview cruise for 2 with all taxes and fees -$100 Next cruise -$100 RCCL Stock -$50 C&A Cert. -$160 Discover Card Cashback -$400 Flights for Friends Total = $440 Doesnt Get much better than that. Right now they are selling the same cabin on the Jan. 24th sailing for around $1549
