20 years old. Will I be welcome on Princess?

I am debating on Princess. I'm 20 years old and have been on 6 cruises in the past (2 Royal Caribbean, 2 Carnival, Holland America, and Disney). I prefer the more elegant ships with very good service and staff, but also those that have popular night clubs. I love getting dressed up for formal nights and going to all the shows. I tend to stay up late (2am), but I'm not big into drinking, obviously since I wouldn't be able to on Princess. My boyfriend is 23, and would love to spend his days in the casino. I know he will be covered for activities. We love swimming and outdoor-sy things.

What I'm worried about is whether or not there will be too many age restrictions for me being only 20? Can I get into night clubs, be around him in the casino, be allowed in "adults only" places, or will I be treated like a child? Where will I not be welcome? What places are strictly 21+ up? I'd also like to not be around many kids such as in the main pool area. On other lines it always seems to me that the main pools are full of wild, water splashing kids? Are there any specific Princess ships that may suit my age better?

The cruise we are thinking about is a 7 day Caribbean cruise in March (spring break week).

Yes, you will be allowed into the club. I have seen 18 yo's in there. I am not sure, but I don't think that you are allowed in the casino. There are plenty of things for you to do though, and I am sure there will be pleanty of people your age to meet and get along with by the pool during spring break. Have fun!

Of course you'd be welcome on a Princess ship. As you already know, no alcohol is served to those under 21. You may want to check the Princess website for their "faqs". The M.U.T.S. (Movies Under the Stars) is fun, and the pizza is quite good. Lots of things to keep you busy. On Spring Break week, you will probably find a lot of passengers in your age group. Enjoy!:)

Our 20 daughter really enjoys Princess. Lots to do. She enjoys the activities offered. She can't play in the casino but has watched who ever in her party was playing. She is welcome in every club. They sometimes have get togethers for cruisers 18-20. You will have a wonderful time.

There are usually adults only (18 & up) pools on Princess ships, so you don't have put up with splashing kids in the main pool. Afternoon tea can be enjoyed by all. You can play bingo, although if you win your boyfriend would have to claim the prize. I think you will have a great time!

On the first day I would recommend chatting to the entertainment staff (most of whom are in their 20s) and ask if there is a young peoples get together scheduled. Sometimes they forget or the program is too busy to squeeze it in but when they are asked they do arrange and publish it. At least then you have the opportunity to meet others your own age early in the cruise. Also join the roll call for the ship and go to the meet and greet which at least gets you a few more contacts too.

I am in my 20's and have always loved Princess. It really is the perfect mix of elegance and fun. Princess' casino's are generally very nice and well equipped but there is the possibility of them asking you for your ID and asking you to leave when they become aware that you are only 20.

I agree with the above post completely...just wanted to tell you to go and have a great time. I've never been carded while into the casino, I don't think that they check that heavily. I have been carded on multiple occasions upon entrance into Skywalkers. :)

Just off the Crown Princess E. Caribbean 1/4 sailing...

If you like nightlife you might want to bypass Princess. After 11PM the ship rolls up shop with the exception of the casino and Skywalker's disco. The disco plays Top 40 only and depending on the type of music you like you might not hear it. It varies also with the crowd so if you're in the minority you lose out. On our sailing there were a TON of 20 somethings, myself included but the music tastes varied. R&B was a big favorite. The same songs were played every night though. Some country songs were put in there (due to a large mid-west showing) and then there was finally some faster dance / house music at the end of the cruise. Be prepared to be subjected to the electric slide, macarena and other songs of the like every single night and all of them will be played - usually around midnight to 1AM. I went to the disco five nights of the cruise and it was ok to make new friends but the music was not great to dance to. The Motown power hours were great but too frequent and by the end of the cruise you'll be hearing Motown everywhere!!

As for the drinking age, yes it is 21 on Princess and you will be allowed into the disco but they do card you so make sure you bring your photo ID. It was heavily enforced on our sailing.

Two words:

Fake ID.

They check the folio and have a list at the door. Trust me... there were enough 18 to 21 year olds on the 1/4 sailing I felt old being in the disco!! Ha ha!:o

They had two security guards at the door checking IDs and if it looked suspicious they took the list out of pax and looked for the name. There was no way to fake it and Princess was very stern about it.

oh come on, we are not talking about the college town bars, we are talking about a cruise ship. NO, fake ID does not work, a guest age shows on thier passport and that is how your cabin card and everything is set up. Providing a fake ID on a cruise is a criminal offense as you are using it to prove citizenship as well.

Now to the OP, you will be fine. Go, enjoy and we prepared for lots of college kids on the ship..

Is this cruise going to be with you and your BF or are family members going with you?

The reason I ask-- does princess allow under 21 to book a cruise?

Princess allows you to book as long as you are over the age of 18. I booked my first cruise when my bf and i were 19. As for casinos and drinks you have to be 21. When a staff member swipes your card a popup window appears with the words "MINOR" attached to your card. But I'm sure you'll still have fun.

You'll be fine. If you're over 18 and your b/f is over 21, you'll be fine provided you don't need to be in the casino with him. I've been cruising Princess since I was a young teen. Still my favorite line of the ones I've tried (Disney is surprisingly good for non-young kids as well, but has limited locations).
