Ta421sBtrHalf Posted November 14, 2004 #1 Share Posted November 14, 2004 I am having a real problem finding DS dress shoes. My DH usually buys his from Florsheim, but I am not about to pay $120.00 or more for shoes he will outgrow in two months or less. We went to Syms and to the mall looking at clearence but I have not found anything decent or the right color. It was so much easier finding them when he wore a kids size, but now he wears a man size it has been a real pain. I just lost two ebay auctions trying to get a pair but since my computer if from the stone age it seems to lag when I make a bid. He wore a size 2 shoe for a year and a half and I was soooo worried and his pediatrician kept telling me to enjoy it! His foot has grown 2 sizes since school started and I don't think those feet will ever stop!
BottledRed Posted November 14, 2004 #2 Share Posted November 14, 2004 I got a great pair of men's dress shoes for my fiancee at Famous Footwear for less than $60.
Jane110 Posted November 14, 2004 #3 Share Posted November 14, 2004 I see that you live in Ft. Lauderdale. Have you tried Sawgrass Outlet Mall? They should have some nice shoes for your son. Jane
HappyStamper Posted November 14, 2004 #4 Share Posted November 14, 2004 If you can't find an inexpensive pair of shoes for your son you could purchase a pair of high quality shoes then sell then on ebay after he has finished with them to get some of your money back. gerif Posted November 15, 2004 #6 Share Posted November 15, 2004 My DH who hates shoes wore black leather sneakers on formal night - know what? don't think anyone noticed. all you really see are the toes anyway.
maryevelyn Posted November 16, 2004 #7 Share Posted November 16, 2004 I know exactly what you mean. I would look at K-mart, Walmart, Target, Kohl's. He will only have them on a couple hours, so you don't need to worry about getting the best. You should be able to find a good looking pair for under $30.00 for sure. scarletine Posted November 16, 2004 #8 Share Posted November 16, 2004 Don't forget Payless Shoe Source. Checking out their web site (http://www.payless.com/), I see men's dress shoes running for as little as $14.99 on sale.
Ta421sBtrHalf Posted November 17, 2004 Author #9 Share Posted November 17, 2004 The problem with discount stores is they only carry black and occaisionaly brown, and he really needs burgundy. I will be checking out Sawgrass Mills this weekend because my niece is coming down to buy a dress for a new years eve party and she loves shopping at Saks and Neiman Marcus outlet stores. Thanks! imosoreal Posted November 17, 2004 #10 Share Posted November 17, 2004 I like to take my hubby to DSW or Off Broadway. He always finds something reasonably priced that he likes.
happysinglemom Posted November 17, 2004 #11 Share Posted November 17, 2004 Well - I was about to say Payless until you said burgundy. Yeah - that is a problem - good luck!!!
Bob the banker Posted November 17, 2004 #12 Share Posted November 17, 2004 Why not try buying shoes from a charity shop, or don't you have them in America. In England we have charity shops where people donate clothes shoes and other items. The charity shop sends the money to the charity they represent. If you go to a charity shop in a decent area you can sometimes buy designer items at a fraction of the normal cost. I don't buy anything from these shops myself, but I do sometimes donate items to them.
Kaye from Chicagoland Posted November 17, 2004 #13 Share Posted November 17, 2004 Ditto a message above: Famous Footwear - name brands, good quality at a lot less $$$. Kaye
smoothdancer Posted November 18, 2004 #14 Share Posted November 18, 2004 When are you sailing? Twice a year Syms does have thier sales, and you could pick up a pair really reasonable... Maybe you could go onto thier website for the dates. JanetM said that white tux jackets were out..... I was so unhappy. I had planned to hit the Syms sale and purchase a white tux jacket for hubby.... I still love them.
maryevelyn Posted November 18, 2004 #15 Share Posted November 18, 2004 Just a question, but what color is the suit he will be wearing? I think you could probably get by with black or brown shoes for almost any color. Mary
Ta421sBtrHalf Posted November 19, 2004 Author #16 Share Posted November 19, 2004 We were at Syms over the weekend, that is where DH buys dress shirts and ties. The suit is navy and I posted a week or so ago to ask what color shoes would go with the suit and everyone said burgundy. I did some looking in his closet and burgundy shoes would go best with everything he has to wear this season as well, khaki pants burgundy and navy sweaters and all of his ties seem to have burgundy and navy in them. I am sure I can find some this weekend at the Sawgrass Mills, or he can always borrow a pair of my sisters rental only bowling shoes, she seems to have a pair in every size from 3 to 8 (JUST KIDDING). Ta421sBtrHalf Posted November 21, 2004 Author #18 Share Posted November 21, 2004 I just got back from the mall and had dropped by JC Penny to look around really quick and found one pair of burgundy tassel loafers on clearence for $19.99! My troubles are over until he grows again.
