may I put in a suggestion that on the way to the inner harbour you stop for a visit to the Bateman Centre. It celebrates the art of Robert Bateman, Canada’s primier wildlife artist. Very much worth a visit. It is right on the harbour easily accessible and moderate admission. Goggle it and see what a treat it is..He lives nearby on Saltspring Island.

Walking is the eye of the beholder. As is the word "stroll." I was there May 26th and I did stroll. No rush; nice day. But it did take at least 25 minutes; less going back. There are inclines along the way, or at least there were on the street I took. My big "find" was Starbucks where I cooled down my stroll with iced coffee.

I could have taken the shuttle, but exercise is never a bad thing.

As soon as you get off the ship and pass through the Canadian customs building, go get in the cab line (usually short to non existent). The cost of a cab to the Empress/harbor is $10 and if you ask other people standing in line with you most likely someone will be willing to share a cab and split the cost. Result: cost for each couple to the Empress...$5 plus tip. Ditto on the way back.
