Mt. Gay Rum

We did the tour about 3 years ago. Took a cab to the Mt. Gay location and it was a short trip.

Got a nice tour and got to taste some great liquor!:D Bought a couple of bottles. Our favorite is the sugar cane brandy.

Tip: we have found Mt. Gay rum in Grand Cayman at the Blackbeard's liquor store in the shopping mall for less $$$ than it cost us to buy it in Barbados. Have brought a few bottles back from Grand Cayman as well.;)

Has anyone does this tour at the factory?

It says its 3 minutes from the cruise terminal, is that walking or by cab?

Yes, it's about 3 mins. away from the Port by cab, and you'd be advised to cab it there,

even if you walk back later(which should be easy since your ship is within sight)

Walking to get there is a circuitous route that could take you maybe twenty wasted minutes

(better you spend that time walking back, later if you see what I mean?)

It's not the factory, per se ...it's an interesting Visitor Center.

The actual factory/distillery is awaaays up North, out in the sticks, near North Point!!

That's why they established their Visitor Center 3 mins. away from the Port

to save you a whole lotta trouble and travelling.

And when you're done with the rum tour

be careful how you cross the two-lane hiway

to get to this beach, about 100 yds. away..

This is Brandons Beach, also known as Brighton Beach...aka Malibu Beach

(Malibu's down at the far end where you see those stacks off in the far distance)

Got it?

This is the same beach you'll see.. looking North from your ship's Top Deck like so...

and those are the same stacks off in the distance.

The Mt.Gay Visitor Center is just out of the picture, at right

Can you rent chairs and umbrellas on this beach? ===> Yes at the Malibu end

and maybe at Weisers too but not sure

If not, how far away is Lobster Alive?

Here's another shot of that that Malibu/Brandons/Brighton Beach I just found..

Yes you can rent chairs and stuff at the Malibu Beach Club (far)end of the beach.

Some folks head straight to Malibu, do the Rum Refinery tour, the whole nine yards,

and get the free drink when they buy the package.

Otherwise that long stretch of beach is purty much non-commercial

except for Weisers Bar down at the other (near)end of the beach

How far away is Lobster Alive?

About 1.25 miles from the pier

(thru the Town's shopping area, over the bridge and a little beyond)
