snorkel vest

Here's an example of a typical inflatable vest. They are light weight and take up little luggage space. Best of all, you can inflate them to a level that's most comfortsble for you. Be sure the vest has a crotch strap to prevent it from riding up.

You can purchase these at any dive shop. Ordering via internet is not a problem because they come in two basic sizes, children and adult.

If you order a shorty online, just make sure you have measured yourself. Wetsuits run differently depending upon the brand. Also, I like to snorkel with a wet suit better than a vest, but have learned that if you are doing an 'excursion' with a ship or are on their island, you had to have a vest. Guess it was just their way of making $.

Good luck & enjoy your trip!!

Any reputable snorkel guide will require a flotation device for a boat snorkel.

How do they make $ requiring one? They don't charge extra for providing that service.

Is this something I should by at a shop or is online ok? Thanks.

Either way. If there is a Costco near you, they often have them fairly cheap. If not, a good sporting goods store or dive shop should have something. You can also check out http://www.scubatoys.com.

If you go on a ship sponsored excursion, the operator may still require you to have a vest on for insurance purposes, but there is no law saying you have to inflate the silly thing.
