Is this doable???

We will be in St. George for three days. One of the days we were planning on:

1. Taking the ferry to Hamilton and walk around for a little bit (couple of hours).

2. Take a bus from Hamilton to John Smith's Bay and spend a couple of hours.

3. Get back on the bus and go to the Swizzle in for a while before heading back to St. George.

Is this doable? What bus do we take from Hamilton to John Smith and then John Smith to Swizzle Inn and finally back to St. George? I assume there are facilities at John Smith's Bay such as places to change and eat/drink, correct?

Do you know the time of the first ferry from St. George to Hamilton? It will be during the week.

Thanks for your help,

Tom

Hi, Tom and Jane!!! It is c breeze from your Canada/NE cruise on the Dawn in 2007! When are you sailing to Bermuda, and will you be on the Dawn again? We are booked on the Dawn in October, to celebrate our 30th anniversary (went to Bermuda for our honeymoon).

Here is a like for the bus/ferry schedule. Get a 3 day pass as soon as you get off the ship!

Hi C Breeze,

I remember you all. Met you at the meet and greet and weren't you on the same bus as we were taking the Cornerbrook Tour that saw the bear? Our friends had a different tour guide and they said he was horrible. At least we had a good one!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are going on the Majesty at the end of May. Our 30th is June 2nd so we decided to do something different instead of Alaska and Canada/New England. I was on the C/NE board and seen you all went back to C/NE this past fall on the Jewel?? We went in October on the Majesty for a short seven day cruise. Would have loved to go back to Quebec City. Your link for the bus passes didn't show up on the thread.

Any advice on Bermuda? We are docking in St. George...

Great hearing from you,

Tom

It can be done - you'll need to check the bus and ferry schedule carefully, but it'll be a wonderful day - John Smith's Bay is beautiful but there are only toilets there (just big enough to change in) - no other facilities. Well, sometimes there is a refreshment truck but you can't count on it. It's the no. 1 bus, runs every 30 mins as far as the Swizzle; there's a stop right by the beach. The 2009 summer ferry schedule isn't out yet but last year the first ferry from St Geo was 10am, arriving in Hamilton 11.05am. There is a supermarket (the Market Place) one block east of the bus terminal in Hamilton if you want to buy your own refreshments for the beach. Then from the Swizzle you get the no. 1, 3, 10, or 11 bus to St Geo, whichever comes first.

You might not need too long in Hamilton - there's been so much construction it's not as pretty as it once was - St Geo beats it hands down. In St Geo don't miss the Tucker House and Globe Hotel - both amazing little museums run by the Bemuda National Trust.

Try this link, and then click on "Transport". Schedules may change so check back shortly before you leave.

We have not been to Bermuda for several years, and it sounds as though things have changed in Hamilton. We loved to walk around Hamilton, and they had street festivals there on Wednesday nights. Shops in Saint George were lovely as well. We loved the beaches along the South Shore (Horeshoe Bay/Jobson's Cove) which are gorgeous and have waves from the Ocean. Tobacco Bay near Saint George is better for snorkeling, but we found it crowded. Bermuda is our favorite! We did not do any "tours" when we have been there, and spent lots of time at the beach. Now that I must be very careful about sun exposure, we will be spending more time sightseeing, but plan to do it on our own, since the bus and ferry systems are great.

Thanks C breeze. Really appreciate all the links and info. We are planning on doing it on our own. We will be looking really hard for a sunset cruise. Ever do that?

Tom

No we have not. Sorry, I don't have much tour info. I will tell you that the wonderful smell of the flowers and the sound of the tree frogs at night are some of the small things that will stay with you long after you leave...

The more we read and hear about Bermuda the more excited we get.... Just a little over four months now!!!!!!!! Hey did you ever get your passport stamped? Is there a place in St. George to do that?

We never brought our passports before, since we did not need to. Don't know where you can get it stamped.
