skiiergirl Posted April 22, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 22, 2004 Good evening everyone from aboard the beautiful Radiance. We will be going through the canal tomorrow. You can watch us on pancanal.com. We should start through the first set of locks around 7:30 am Central time and pass through the last lock around 3:30 tomorrow afternoon. We have had "a weather front" that has kept it overcast most of the week but no big storms. The entertainment has been good. The food is very good. The cabin service is excellent. Will report more as we proceed through trip and much more when we return.
woodz Posted April 22, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 22, 2004 How does the ship look? What room are you staying in? What are the productions shows and the headliners? How's the food? What night would be good to book Chops? We will be on her on the 2nd for our 3rd time. We just love her. Thanks for the info. skiiergirl Posted April 22, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted April 22, 2004 Janet...The ship is still in good shape. She is still beautiful to us. You can see a little wear but as usual....they are out painting where it needs it and varnishing handrails, etc. We have felt for the last several years that the food quality has gone done (due to pricing) but I must say our food has been excellent all week. I have only heard one person "complain" and that was because their steak was not cooked the way they liked it. Most everyone has actually been complimenting the food. As far as headliners...we had Burt Leigh last night. We had Steven Scott, Mario D'Andrea, and a violinist from the U.K.. Tonight is the first production show and it is "Welcome to Our World". I'm sure you have probably seen it before. We haven't booked Chops or Portofinos yet. We usually try to figure out what night we will be "less than pleased" with dining room selections and then try to book that night. But so far there has been something on the dining room menu that we wanted to go there for every night. As always, the Radiance staff is awesome. Our dining staff is great, our cabin steward is wonderful, bar service is good, concierge is excellent. We are very pleased. Sounds like you are getting on when we are getting off. There are 200 passengers on board now that are continuing up the coast to Canada. I hope I answered all of your questions. Enjoy your cruise. DENNAS Posted April 22, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 22, 2004 Hi Janet, I just came back Sunday from a week on the Radiance. The ship is in excellent shape. She is just beautiful. I loved it. The entertainment was ok, the show reviews (with the entire troupe) were fair at best...but since I work in NYC and go to NY shows, I am a tough critic !! We also saw the juggler/comedian. He was good. The food was good to very good. Oh, the VanDells were there, for one night, very good show. I enjoyed 6/7 nights of my dinners very much. Our waiter and room steward were excellent !! Replied quickly to our every request. We couldn't have asked for more from either one. Erkan was the waiter, and Patricia our room steward. I hope you have as wonderful a time as we did.... woodz Posted April 22, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 22, 2004 Thanks for all the info. We are going to be in room 8084, next to the bump and I'm not sure what the view will be. It's interesting, we have had cabins 8574 & 8622 (both assigned on a GTY) and this is the first time we have been near a bump. How many years does RCCL keep the same production show? Seeing it twice is OK, three times I think we'll find something else. The first time we sailed the Radiance was less than a month old and it was right after 9/11(I think it was 9/15). The show did improve the next time I saw it and the kids do work hard. Skiiergirl, What movies are in the Movie Theater this week? I really would love to take the cruise you are on and go through the canal. Have a great time and thanks for answering my questions. WeirdEyes Posted April 23, 2004 #11 Share Posted April 23, 2004 My good friend's sister passed through the Canal on her cruise this week also. She was up on deck waving a red shirt and my friend has two pictures of her sister up on the deck as they were passing through. She copied them off of the web site. What cool pictures to have to put in your scrapbook. ~~Shelia~~
Sailing the Mariner in....... Carnival Destiny 2002

woodz Posted April 23, 2004 #23 Share Posted April 23, 2004 We live at Ellsworth & Baseline in Augusta Ranch, not to far by the freeway. We are taking a repositional cruise on May 2nd, a 6 night San Diego to Vancouver for our anniversary. It was a great price, less than $100pp a night for an E-2 Balcony. What room were you in? We really love the Radiance Class Ships. justcruzin85374 Posted April 23, 2004 #24 Share Posted April 23, 2004 woodz...Happy Anniversary! On the Radiance we had a standard outside cabin # 3132, On the Brillinace we were in 8114 it too was an E 2. It had the life boat overhang, next time I'll go for an E 1 or higher on the Radiance class ships. You got a good rate, now I'm the one who is Jealous. Jealous. Jealous! When we did the Radiance last Oct. out of San Diego it was awesome to see the ship arrive and dock. It looked like it was never going to stop and end up in the middle of downtwon San Diego!
