Darcy03231 Posted January 27, 2009 #26 Share Posted January 27, 2009 I just got back from a Celebrity cruise and have to say that while I thoroughly enjoyed it, to me Celebrity did not live up to the hype. It was no better than any RCCL or Carnival cruise I've taken. In fact, I thought the food was better on both RCCL and Carnival. Service and entertainment were about the same. The bedding and room size on Carnival beat out Celebrity hands down. I did really like the decor of the ship on Celebrity, the non-smoking casino and the lack of announcements. I will say our head waiter gave us the best service we've ever had on any cruise, but he was the only stand out.
lloydgregory Posted January 27, 2009 #27 Share Posted January 27, 2009 Just came back from our first cruise on Brilliance, fell in love with the ship but now booked Summit, hope I won't be disappointed. Reading through lots of comments over the last year or so I must say everyone seems to be agreed( quite unique on any thread)that Brilliance and the Radiance class ships are the most beautiful, even people on our cruise who said they would not cruise RCL again still admitted that Brilliance was a beautiful ship even if they liked nothing else.:)
dwjoe Posted January 27, 2009 #28 Share Posted January 27, 2009 Just got off the Solstice Sunday and had a great cruise. The ship is beautiful. But our expectations for service were NOT met. I couldn't believe all the beverages at the buffet are self serve. It was impossible to balance a plate of food and get your drink, so I had to get my beverage, put it at the table and then go through the buffet. We received much better service on RCCL ships. Also the food in the main dining room is not any better than RCCL. Hi Sadie, sorry you were disappointed. I was also on Solstice last week and was able to get juices brought to my table in the Oceanview Cafe several times. I sailed on RCCL Voyager-class a couple times. They are great vessels with lots of activities. Generally I found the service on Solstice to be more attentive. Solstice crew tried hard to fulfill everything I asked. cruisindoggie Posted January 28, 2009 #29 Share Posted January 28, 2009 These are Expedia's and Yahoo Travel's ratings for Celebirty's ships: Celebrity Millennium - four and a half stars Celebrity Summit, Infinity and Constellation - four stars Celebrity Mercury - four stars Celebrity Century and Galaxy- three and a half stars Never trust the star rating from a 1 star web-site! tcocktail Posted January 28, 2009 Author #30 Share Posted January 28, 2009 I think they did and named the ship the Solstice. :) Maybe it's time to merge the two lines
Rare Seapoint Posted January 28, 2009 #31 Share Posted January 28, 2009 We have sailed on all the M class , and three of the R class, and had a great time on all. However, there are differences in personality, and each has its plusses and minuses. R class are more stunningly beautiful, M class more elegant and understated Food SLIGHTLY better on M class Entertainment much better on R class Only R class has a concierge lounge, which is a big plus Only M class has thalasotherapy pool Cabins are different but comparable, but shower in R class has a door instead of a curtain R class a little more oriented for teens. Service excellent on both, with a slight edge for M NET: Choose by itinerary and price, rather than M or R class ship.

DWJOE, It's amazing how people can be on the same ship and their experiences differ. When I was sitting at the table and asked for tea on the first day, they actually pointed me to the self serve area. We ate in the oceanview cafe for every breakfast and I happily got my own coffee but no one ever came by to even refill my cup. We were a group of nine, so it worked better for us to eat at the buffet than meet and go to the dining room. I had a great cruise, the ship is beautiful, but this thread is about 5* Celebrity versus RCCL. On RCCL they always came by and asked me what I would like to drink and also offered refills. dwjoe Posted January 28, 2009 #33 Share Posted January 28, 2009 Sadie, I'll vouch for the no-refills... nobody offered me any. And I didn't ask for coffee, only juice, so possibly their policy is to serve cold beverages only? Don't know why they would differ from RCCL in this regard. I am dealing with a serious case of post-cruise depression... for which I understand the only cure is to book your next cruise!! I am looking at Adventure of the Seas out of San Juan next January.. give me something to look forward to!! Regards

I am looking at Adventure of the Seas out of San Juan next January.. give me something to look forward to!! We're depressed here too!!! Our weather is sooo crappy, last week was like a dream. We love the southern caribbean itinerary so much we've sailed the Adventure out of San Juan 3 times. We're looking at the Serenade out of San Juan for January 2010. Good luck with your post-cruise depression cure!
dwjoe Posted January 28, 2009 #36 Share Posted January 28, 2009 Schplinky, thanks for the link to your site... great AOS resource. Apologies for the OT question, but can you comment on the motion aspect of an aft balcony vs midship on Voyager class? Am tempted by the aft view, but my spouse has a slight tendency to seasickness. Apologies for the OT question, but can you comment on the motion aspect of an aft balcony vs midship on Voyager class? Am tempted by the aft view, but my spouse has a slight tendency to seasickness. My partner has great tendancies to motino sickness but there was no rumpling and little motion. he never mentioned it once and had no need to take any medication. If you have any questions about the cruise, please email me via our web-site (in the signature). We had a great time.
celle Posted January 29, 2009 #38 Share Posted January 29, 2009 Celebrity is a bit more refined and classy than RCCL. The food is much better also in addition to the more attentive service. We have sailed twice with RCCL and have very recently completed a 14-day cruise on Celebrity Millennium. We didn't find Millennium (and its passengers) any more refined or classy than the RCCL ships, and the standard of food was almost identical. On both lines, service was excellent. So, from our perspective, there isn't much difference.
