Teen on Carnival Freedom

happy in fl

Recommended Posts

I am traveling with a 15 year old boy on the Carnival Freedom on 4/5/09. Has anyone had any experience with their Club 02 for teens? I have had some bad past experiences with Carnivals Childrens programs and am very leary.

How does the teen shore excursion program work? When can you find out about which port offers these excursions and what they are???

DD and friend liked Club 02 on other ships, cannot comment on the Freedom's, but...........

It is not run like the other clubs but more like a 'club house' with activities available. The parents fill out no forms. The kids can come and go as they please. I assume the activities are similar. They have Wii Playstation and Xbox. Karaoke, Guitar Hero, scavenger hunts, etc. We found out about the shore excursion (horseback riding) the first night. The club host was to be their chaperone but there was not enough interest in it so it was cancelled.

Have him go to the Welcome Party the first night. Just to check it out. He will be given a welcome gift. DD got a mesh bag. The friend (male) thought it was 'dorky' and didn't take it. His mom was made at him for that.

They will put a Club02 sticker on his card. If you get him a lanyard at the casino, do it before the sticker goes on. I wasn't able to get DD a lanyard for her card there because of the sticker, but I got two lanyards for mine:rolleyes:.

Having sailed Freedom 2x with a teen in Club 02, we have had good experiences. As others say, always have the teen go to the meet and mingle they hold the first night. That is when they will "bond" with someone, or a group, for the rest of the cruise. Usually after the first nite, they pick and choose which, if any, events they go to. They usually meet at the club at a certain time, then leave and go hang by themselves by the fish and chips, ice cream, or basketball ct, hot tub, etc. My dd17 would also meet her friends at the pool or cabin during the day to hang. Made lots of nice friends she still keeps in touch with. What is nice about Freedom is the Club is on the promenade deck, so we would pass by it many times on the way to piano bar, casino, show, etc., and peek in. And yes, they checked the sticker on the teen's card each time they went in.
