Biggest RCI/Cruise/Passenger Pet Peeve

Atty

Recommended Posts

Constant announcements.

For those of you that are truly bothered by smoke Celebrity is now non-smoking. :)

No, Celebrity is not non-smoking. They have recently disallowed smoking on balconies. There are still designated areas for smoking - usually on open decks on one side of the ship.

On our recent (Jan 4th) Millennium cruise, smoking was allowed on open areas of deck 10, port side. One side of the casino was also non-smoking, which is an improvement on allowing smoking in the entire casino, but not entirely logical, as the smoke can still infiltrate the non-smoking area.

A few minor annoyances:

1. "Boat" - it's a ship, please

2. Leaving the balcony light on all night.

3. People that refuse to follow the dress code in the dining room when I've made the effort to do so

4. People that brag about the 'deal' they got. Half the time, it's not true anyway.

5. Parents that are too busy having "me" time to parent their children - i.e. - those that don't enforce their own rules if the kids break them, (it's easier to cave into the whining; it is their vacation after all).

6. Mothers that spend hours getting themselves ready, but can't be bothered to even comb their kids' hair.

7. People that walk around carrying beer bottles 24/7.

8. Some of the grouchy older generation that automatically assume that all kids are bad and don't belong on cruise ships.

1. Parents who let their children roam/run thru the ship without ANY supervision.

2. Noisy neighbors who have "get togethers" in their room until the WEE hours of the morning, laughing/talking LOUD, banging against the wall (I'm assuming with their bodies).

3. People who come to the dinner meal 30-45 minutes AFTER we are to be there. If you are on a tour, go to Windjammer. The poor waiters have to start over with them, keep things moving with those there were on time and TRY to get the latecomers out of the dining room to get ready for the next group.

4. Kids in the adult area MANY times with their parents.

For the most part Celebrity is a non smoking line. There was only one small area of slots on the Connie where smoking was allowed. The only areas outside were one side of the small pool bar and the port side of the seaside cafe. There is no smoking allowed in any cabins or on any verandas. If you are a smoker there are very few spaces left to light up. If you are a non-smoker it really is an excellent choice.

Oh, and there is only one announcement per day!

Same company....different product.

Ok, won't sit next to you at dinner! :p I twirl my napkin! ;)

I'll twirl napkins with you any time :)

I kind of like to live and let live. We take the elevator unless 1) we have more than 6 flights to climb or 2) I am wearing heels. We leave the elevator for those who really need it and prefer to climb the stairs for as long as we can.

But if I have to choose a pet peeve, it's just people being unaware and inconsiderate of others around them.

I'm not a jogger, but a walker and I have no idea why people have the need to move the lounge chairs into the jogging path, one of those mysteries of life.

I would just like to clarify my post about those who are physcially able taking the elevator 1 flight. I understand there are many people with not visable reasons using the elevator but for each of you there are also many who do not have any reason. How do I know, just watching the same people around the ship it becomes apparent. If you have a reason visable or not then that is great and you should not worry what others think, it is those that don't that might want to consider walking once in a while. I wonder if that is why we have such a high obesity rate in this country.

Beside the people who cannot wait for others to get off the elevator before they get on, why can't people walk up or down 1 flight of stairs?? I understand some cannot physically but I have seen many able bodies use the elevator for 1 or 2 flights, walk already, most of us in this country can use the exercise.

About cell phones, we have the same issue at work with people on them in the restrooms. I have a big issue with this, most do have cameras and I am sorry but I feel that is a big infringement on my privacy.

Personally, because I don't feel like. I paid to use the elevators...didn't I? Nope don't need the excerise. I tried it once and my legs hurt for days:D

Now that had to be the funniest thing I have read here!!!! ;)

I suffered for 18 years with arthritis in both of my knees...I would try to climb the stairs as much as I could. My problem was that I was young ( and just looked lazy)...diagnosed at 28...finally 2 years ago at age 46 I had a double knee replacement...the stairs are not an issue anymore. I will never judge anyone who wants to take an elevator ride...you just never know...they may have a multitude of health issues that YOU can not see!!!

I just have to say that you cannot always "see" able/unable bodies. How can you tell if someone is able to walk up stairs? I often take the elevator up 1 or 2 flights. I have arthritis in both knees and stairs hurt! I am able to take them, but if I do it often enough during the day, I won't be walking anywhere in the evening. So please, stop judging! :(

I don't have any pet peeves(judgmental people?:p)...once I'm on the ship, I'm happy and don't pay attention to others unless they are in my face.

Amen! I'm in the same "boat" with the arthritic knees and hips.

My biggest pet peeve is peole who confuse LEEWARD (the side to throw up on) with WINDWARD (the side not to).

Other than that, we just kind of laugh at everything.

Snuff dippers and backey chewers have the same problem...excepth those who use the wine glasses a spittoons :D

I'm a pretty laid back sort of person, but ...

When did it become acceptable to wear a baseball hat inside? I have sat at many tables in the Windjammer with people next to me wearing hats while eating. Am I right out of step here or does anyone else think that this shows a shocking lack of manners?

When I actually take a minute to look around and notice, it does bother me that the "gentlemen" don't have manners enough to remove their hats while sitting down to dine. I suppose that I have more exposure to the younger generation in my line of work and therefore have become used to the "baseball cap" as much as I believe it is wrong, it almost goes unnoticed by me. (Let me stress once more - I do not agree with wearing it at the dinner table or indoors at all for that matter). But...... what bothers me more is my husband (sorry dear) who must point out at every dinner, every individual wearing a baseball cap, shorts, flip-flops with their suit or other faux pas and complain that RCCL does nothing to stop them.

How about the person walking in front of you who all the sudden decides to turn around and walk the other direction. Like no one else could be behind them because they are the only one on vacation on this ship.

My pet peeve is the stumbling drunks:

A lady actually poured her drink on my daughter's lap near the pool because she "tripped" (she walked crookedly all the way across the deck and was wobbling around). Strawberry Daquiri Mix is a pain to get out of terrycloth without a good washing machine. All she said "ohh damn honey, you know these things are too good to waste", No apology for pouring the drink on a 6 yr old.

Also, the guy who decided to puke into the garbage can next to our seats. Always a pleasure!!

Now I'm a drinker, but come on, have you ever heard of moderation?

.

Oh I can beat that one. Last year on Princess ( which is supposed to be more upscale ) we were in the theatre and 2 people down from us sat a set of parents with a girl about 16. There was an older man behind them just trashed. He proceeded to lean over and vomit all over the back of her clothing, hair etc. His wife was mortified and left him. So he saunters out and comes back about 25 min later with another drink!

My pet peeves are elevator-button-pushing children,

kids in the hot tubs or in the solarium,

people who complain about what others are wearing in the dining room,

people sitting behind me in a show who just want to talk to each other (go somewhere else to talk and be quiet so the rest of us can hear the show and NOT hear you yapping!),

smelly people who push their way onto a crowded elevator (gag!),

and if someone tried to sit down at my table, without being invited, they would be told to find their own table. I would never plop my butt at someone else's table, or even ask to join them, and I wouldn't want it done to me either.

1) The Movie theater that is so loud you can't carry on a conversation.

2) People walking slow when I'm trying to jog in the main dining room.

3) Kids that wait in line for me to stop my 24 hr. Pacman marathon in the arcade. Parents should teach them proper manners.

4) People that complain when I taste test their food.

5) People that are always wanting me to pay them back the money they loaned me in the casino. Boy are they cheap.

6) People in hallways that get in the way of me flinging my arms side to side.

I've always had that same problem....People seem upset for some reason as I roam the dining room in my cutoff jeans, T-shirt, and flip flops sampling. I mean how am I supposed to order something if I'm not sure I'd like it. Wouldn't want to be wasteful :D

I agree. You might pick something you didn't like and that would be a waste of food.

I like trying different drinks. Although I do use my own straw. I don't want their germs.

Figuring out able bodies can be as tricky as figuring out someone's heritage. You have someone who is clearly "pigmentedly" gifted verses the 'pigmentedly' challenged. There is a lot of in between the eyes can't see. Now you have Michael Jackson who the world can see but no-one can figure out. I take the elevator with my kids because it's one of the few times they get the chance to do so. We don't have a lot of high rise in our area. They particularly like the glass ones in the atrium. An elevator ride is no big deal to some but for a few it's a rarity. My kids are NOT allowed to use it as a toy, just a way to get from deck 1 to deck 2.

My pet peeves involve small children and I am a teacher around Kindergarteners all day.

-parents who let their toddlers in the pool in diapers or swimmer diapers

-small children using the hot tubs as pools-

HOT TUBS ARE DANGEROUS FOR CHILDREN. The parents are never

around:eek:

OMG!!!! That is sooooo disgusting. I guess I should be happy it was just a drink being poured on her.
