teacher2cruiser Posted February 1, 2009 #1 Share Posted February 1, 2009 I've only cruised Carnival once and it was a five nighter. Will there be a Walk for the Cure on my Glory cruise in March? Can anyone sign up? Do men do this walk as well?

Can anyone sign up? Do men do this walk as well? I sailed on the Destiny 1-3-09 (5 nighter) and did the Walk for the Cure. :) I wear my tshirt every time it is clean now. It was a great walk on deck and fun to chat with the survivors too. It was $10 and anyone can sign up and yes, men did/do the walk. We had some men but more women. Anyone can sign up too. I plan to do it again on my upcoming cruise on the Ecstasy.

jayesouthworth Posted February 1, 2009 #5 Share Posted February 1, 2009 Too bad they don't extend this program to the treadmills inside the gym. Everytime I used the treadmill, they were filled up and sometimes people were waiting to get on them. Some extra money could be made there for "The Cure." I walked 21 miles during the cruise on the treadmill.

Can anyone sign up? Do men do this walk as well? The Walk, as I understand it, is currently only conducted on six night and longer cruises. I did manage to convince John Heald and Big Tex to allow us a Walk in the Blogger's Cruise on the Fantasy. We sail this Saturday and it's a five day... The Glory should have the Walk. It's typically done on the last sea day...

pe4all Posted February 1, 2009 #8 Share Posted February 1, 2009 We have participated in it on each Carnival cruise. We always keep a special eye out for it. Sometimes, it is not as "advertised" as it should be. (small print in the capers, and only an announcement that a.m.) I am really shocked (and disappointed) they didn't have it on Splendor. It should (imho) be on every cruise...
KandCsailing Posted February 1, 2009 #9 Share Posted February 1, 2009 Check at the Formalities shop on board ship. That's where I went to sign up and get the t-shirt on our cruises. They are the shop where you can rent tuxes and buy candy or order flowers.

ship99 Posted February 1, 2009 #11 Share Posted February 1, 2009 Does anyone know if the Victory has the Walk? We are on 7 night cruise with a port each day and would love to do this, considering one of us is a Breast Cancer Survivor!
Maraprince Posted February 1, 2009 #12 Share Posted February 1, 2009 Will they have it on the Triump in October up to Canada? I am a breast cancer survivor and participated in HAL walk and men, women and children all joined in. Great fun and a great way to meet your other passengers as money is raised for a good cause. Passengers lose more than $10 in the casino and have nothing to show for it! :D MARAPRINCE
ShaynaS Posted February 2, 2009 #13 Share Posted February 2, 2009 Do they have it on the Legend? I am planning a family reunion cruise in Sept. Many in our group would love to do this as alot of us have either battled with cancer or others in our family have not made it b/c of cancer. We would love to walk for a cure!! Go to Formalities because that is where you give the ten dollars and get your t-shirt and wristband.....

Rickdabear Posted February 3, 2009 #19 Share Posted February 3, 2009 Hey, I'm a cancer survivor -- so far. I've had epithileoma, melanoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and now I have advance adinocarcinoma of the prostate. I have my walk for the cure shirt. I wear it proudly in public. I'm a very large man -- 6' plus and 270 lbs. I have a lot of women comment about my shirt as well as the tatoo on the back of my neck which is a blue cancer ribbon. I have a very old very near and dear and close friend who is fighting breast cancer. So I support her in every way I can. I is a second floor thing. People that have or had cancer understand that. People that don't or didn't don't understand it. It's okay if you don't. Da Bear

*Mach* Posted February 21, 2009 #22 Share Posted February 21, 2009 All of the walks that I have participated in, 5 total, have all been on the last day early afternoon. The walk is always on the jogging track and is one mile. We did 11 laps on the Fantasy to get the mile. John and Tex were great about putting on the walk for us. Tex was given a goal of 54 participants and we ended up with over 125!! Every one of these walks was a wonderful experience with truly great people involved.
