Pettifogger Posted February 3, 2009 #1 Share Posted February 3, 2009 I just want to walk around Lahaina, so I'm hesitant to rent a car even though they're so inexpensive in Hawaii. Is there a reasonably convenient way to get to Lahaina without renting a car?
wolfshadow Posted February 3, 2009 #2 Share Posted February 3, 2009 I just want to walk around Lahaina, so I'm hesitant to rent a car even though they're so inexpensive in Hawaii. Is there a reasonably convenient way to get to Lahaina without renting a car? Where do you dock at? LaHaina or Kahului? If LaHaina, it's very easy as there are shuttles running from the dock to LaHaina which actually is in walking reach. If Kahului, you would definitely have to rent a car to drive there, about 40 min. drive. Still worth it though!

wolfshadow Posted February 3, 2009 #4 Share Posted February 3, 2009 Wolfshadow: Thank you. The itinerary says Lahaina. Very doable then! Have a great time. Great shopping in La Haina, just a beautiful spot, too! I don't know if you have time for a luau but if you do, check out the Old La Haina Luau. It's just at the other end of town, there's also shuttle service. I had some cruise friends that did this last Sept while on their cruise and stopped in La Haina. It's a wonderful Luau and I have some video of it thru my pix link below, if you want to check it out! ;)
Pettifogger Posted February 4, 2009 Author #5 Share Posted February 4, 2009 wolfshadow: Thanks again. We'll look into it, but when we go ashore from a cruise ship, we can't always look directly at food or even enjoy watching others eat.
zelker Posted February 10, 2009 #6 Share Posted February 10, 2009 If you are docked in Lahaina, you will tender right to it - you get off the tender by the Pioneer Inn and the famous Banyan Tree park. Front Street, the main drag, is right there. It couldn't be any easier. Have fun!
mauiedin87 Posted February 14, 2009 #7 Share Posted February 14, 2009 Lahaina does NOT have a cruiseship dock! The dock is just big enough for the tenders that bring passengers from where the ship is anchored. Renting a car two years ago was just so we could go down to the beach where we got married 20 years ago, but otherwise it was very hard to find parking anywhere near the town. You might enjoy going to the smaller part of the island where beaches are much wider and far less crowded. Be aware that when a ship unloads 2000-3000 passengers it will get crowded most everywhere, especially in Lahaina itself.
