45 minutes is pretty iffy, even an hour is tight. After all, figure an average 20 minutes for gate-gate transit, that gives you only 25-40 minutes for delays, and that can get burned up pretty easily.

 

Are there other flights that you could connect on and still make the ship / get home?

I live near DFW airport and am very familiar with it. While it is the norm to have connections of 45 minutes to an hour, if you can avoid it I would go with a longer layover just to play it safe. If you can still change your flights without a penalty I would at least take a look at what other flights are available.
