littlerick Posted February 6, 2009 #1 Share Posted February 6, 2009 My wife and I will be cruising on the Enchantment of the Seas 5/2/09. We plan to fly from Oregon to Orlando, Disney World, for 4 days. What is the best option for transportation from Orlando to Port Everglades? We are thinking of renting a car but the traffic is a concern as we are used to no traffic in a small town in rural southern Oregon. Thanks for your help:)

Thanks for your help:) I say just rent a car.....Take the turn pike right into Lauderdale and you should be fine. Thats the route we take (live in Orlando) and it's pretty much traffic free, since the by the time you the Ft Lauderdale the morning rush hour is over...No prob! Thanks for your help:) I'm not sure this would be the "best" option for getting from Orlando to Ft. Lauderdale, but it is an option. Amtrak trains run daily from Orlando to Ft. L, leaving Orlando around 12:45 p.m. and arriving in Ft. L. about 6 in the evening. You could then take a taxi to a hotel close to the port and stay the night before. It is about a 4.5 hour train ride . . . not too bad. As far as traffic goes in south Florida (from West Palm Beach south), if you are a nervous driver and don't like congestion and 70 mph speeds, you won't like driving here. Seldom is traffic light in this area.
piercetc4 Posted February 6, 2009 #4 Share Posted February 6, 2009 try the port of departure area of the boards- there is some good info there that might be useful to you- a friend mentioned taking some shuttle from ocala, fl ( near orlando) to miami - maybe there is another shuttle like that one you could take going to fll? you may could google shuttles to the port everglades pier and find something there that could help? good luck we flew into mco once and drove to fll in a rental car- was very easy- i forget now who we rented from but they had an office at quay shopping center in fll and would shuttle you to the pier - in case that helps
littlerick Posted February 6, 2009 Author #5 Share Posted February 6, 2009 Thanks for the replies. I looked at the other forums you suggested and got some good input. Fortunately we have several months to decide:cool:
Pumbaamd Posted February 7, 2009 #6 Share Posted February 7, 2009 Concerning the Amtrak trains, those heading south from Orlando are ones that originate far up north, usually New York. Travelling that distance, they can at times be hours late. Give it some thought. Rick and Deirdra

Thanks for your help:) Been to DW, Gulf Coast and Southern Florida many times. When you get to Orlando, take a cab or bus to Disney World. When you are through at DW, rent a car from National right on Disney property at the car care center. Take the Florida Turnpike South. Very easy to get around Orlando and to the pike. Nothing like us driving in Portland or Seattle.
littlerick Posted February 7, 2009 Author #8 Share Posted February 7, 2009 Thanks. Seems like car rental is the way to go. Nice to hear from a "fellow' Northwestern. Seattle traffic is what I try to avoid. Next time I go to a Mariners game it will be Amtrak:cool: from Eugene. Been to DW, Gulf Coast and Southern Florida many times.
