RedSoxWon Posted November 22, 2004 #1 Share Posted November 22, 2004 I'm curious. What was your first meal after returning home from your cruise? After our first cruise ten years ago, we had "Steak-um" sandwiches. Last week, I defrosted some frozen Buffalo wings. Both were terribly depressing experiences after all the pampering and great food on the ship.
nosnobunny Posted November 22, 2004 #2 Share Posted November 22, 2004 We have a tradition - it's meatloaf with mashed potatoes with gravy and veggies. :D We're always away from home for at least three weeks. That's a lot of restaurant eating. By that time I'm sick of big meals and in dire need of some comfort food. Beth
jerzzgirl Posted November 22, 2004 #3 Share Posted November 22, 2004 I think it was pizza. I know I didn't cook for like a week - I was still in pamper mode :D
CrusinElf Posted November 22, 2004 #4 Share Posted November 22, 2004 Ohhhhh, Beth. There's no better comfort food than meatloaf and mashed potatoes, is there? YUM!!! Let's see...on our first night back, I usually make pasta with a very basic sauce. It's easy and tasty, but it's not being on a cruise! WAAAHHHHH! :( Elf
kyriecat Posted November 22, 2004 #5 Share Posted November 22, 2004 We stopped for a seafood lunch (shrimp & crab) on the drive home, but what I really wanted was some extra spicy, cheesy Tex-Mex!
Michuck Posted November 22, 2004 #6 Share Posted November 22, 2004 Purposely stayed away from any pizza on the cruise, so was ready for it when we came home....fridge was empty, so ordering in was great! Michele
98Charlie Posted November 22, 2004 #7 Share Posted November 22, 2004 Meal? You mean people eat actual meals after getting off a cruise ship? Normally our stomach growls because it thinks it's empty. We look at sandwich vendors and restaurants in the airport - nothing sounds good. If we're staying over at disembarkation city we walk the streets looking for something that sounds good -- Our normal answer is, had that, had that - want something different. So we share a sandwich between us or share a plate of appetizers in a restaurant and still feel stuffed when we go to bed --- and are still stuffed 3 days later. Dianne

joyceyw Posted November 22, 2004 #9 Share Posted November 22, 2004 We always stop for fried chicken and mashed potatoes. On our 3 day Monarch cruise we left the ship and drove straight to Roscoe's House of Chicken & Waffles. Yum, Yum.
Sea Island Lady Posted November 22, 2004 #10 Share Posted November 22, 2004 For some reason, we have a tradition of eating BBQ (pulled pork sandwiches)after every vacation. Not the first meal after the cruise, but the first nights meal when we return home. :)
Murphy Posted November 22, 2004 #11 Share Posted November 22, 2004 Usually pizza or some other take-out. I start to unpack while we wait for it to arrive! Not quite ready to cook for myself the day we get home. :(

hstrybuf Posted November 23, 2004 #17 Share Posted November 23, 2004 I don't remember what it was. All I know is it was cheap, easy and didn't look or taste as good as what I'd been eating the week before!

FrankiRN Posted November 23, 2004 #19 Share Posted November 23, 2004 We drive to most of our cruises, so we usually stop at a Steak and Shake on the drive to the cruise, and on the way home from Florida to Savannah. We don't have them in Savannah, so it's our only opportunity to have it.
tanker47 Posted November 23, 2004 #20 Share Posted November 23, 2004 Got in yesterday from the Mariner. We only live 2 hours from Port Canaveral and were home by 11:30am. We have a small business so we grabbed a Big Mac and fries up the street to munch on while we checked our business. Tanker47

lvcruiser Posted November 23, 2004 #25 Share Posted November 23, 2004 Our first meal off the ship on the 10/23 NOS sailing was with our son in Ft. Lauderdale and he took us to a local Mexican restaurant. However, our first meal after returning home was our favorite local pizza. We both had a craving for it after not getting a decent one onboard the ship. Our biggest problem for the past three weeks since returning has been continually wanting the same good food we received on the ship and eating out way too often, but not getting the same amount of exercise we got while onboard and doing our shore excursions. Accordingly, we have gained more weight since returning than we did onboard.
