Italy52 Posted February 24, 2009 #1 Share Posted February 24, 2009 This question is for the locals: Last year there were long lines for cabs and we were informed of this prior to our cruise so we made alternate arrangements - express walkoff. Has the cab situation improved? Or, should we expect more of the same for this coming cruise season? Thanks in advance for your reply(ies). Wish I had better news...but I am afraid you can expect more of the same. Not knowing how long ago you were last in Vancouver, there has been some improvement in the number of cabs over the past year or so but not as you would notice. Also in the past few years the cabs for the most part have been downsized to compact and so they will only hold 2 to 3 pax with luggage.:o

I was in Vancouver the first week of June '08 after disembarking the Radiance of the Seas. Did see that a lot of the cabs had converted over to the Prius(sp?) - fortunately, we didn't have a lot of luggage otherwise we would have been in trouble. Will keep our original plan for early disembarkation (express walkoff) so we don't have to deal with the crowds.
teemsum Posted February 24, 2009 #4 Share Posted February 24, 2009 You should expect more of the same because the City of Vancouver rejected the taxi companies request for more taxi licences. Cruisingly Yours
dam1050 Posted March 9, 2009 #5 Share Posted March 9, 2009 The taxi situation in Vancouver is still dreadful. We are EXTREMELY short of cabs -- suburban cabs cannot pick up within the city limits of Vancouver, so you can get into the city OK from the airport for example , but oftentimes will have trouble getting a cab to go TO the airport or around the city to other places or home at night from nightclubs etc....... We waited about 1/2 hour for a cab off our last cruise.
