insomniac wonders about walking around in PJ's

I'm considering going to the buffet for breakfast in my jammies, robe & slippers with a teddy bear under my arm. I bought some new satin jammies & robe just for the occasion.

On my last cruise I saw a few people on the lido for breakfast in their pjs and the ship robe. No teddy bears, though.

On my last cruise I saw woman walking around at 10 a.m. wearing her robe and slippers. I could not believe my eyes and I think it looks ridiculous. The cruise ship is not a pajama party! If you think you have to get up in the night and get tea and/or roam around, then just put something on before you go to bed that would be appropriate to wear out in public which I personally do not think is your pj's, robe and slippers.

If you have claustrophobia for Heaven Sake change to an outside cabin. The inside cabins on the Majesty are miniscule and if you have four in the cabin then you will have a bed a few inches from your head if you are on the bottom bunk and the ceiling a few inches from it if you are on a top bunk.

I suggest you wear something other than pajamas to bed if you really think you need to go out, also where exactly are you planning to find this coffee in the middle of the night and doesn't coffee defeat add to the problem of insomnia?

Why not room service if you don't want to dress?

It was Carnival so no hot room service breakfast. That was my guess.

I had gotten up early to use the hot tub before all the kids peed in it, and it's pretty amazing what you see early in the morning on the Lido.

honestly if i saw someone walking around in a robe and slippers i would have a little chuckle to myself, probably smile at them, and wish i was doing the same thing.

if you dont care what people think about you then i say GO FOR IT!

a robe and slippers is far better than a lot of things people where.

:D

Absolutely!!! I agree with Punkmuse.

A few years back, my husband and I were on Island Princess (15 days) and most evenings after the shows we would go to the hot tub or swimming. After that we would go back to our cabin and shower and change into our pyjamas, robes and slippers and head to the late movie. (Usually around 11 PM) More often than not, we were the only ones in the theatre.

Also, on the way to the theatre we seldom passed anybody in the hallways or the stairways.

This was one of my favorite things on our cruise. I loved relaxing on the cushy seats, late at night in my jammies.

If you want to go for tea late at night in your pyjamas, you go.

Being a 60+ year old male I'll need a teddy bear; I know I'll miss my dog; I always do.

Thanks for the advice everyone...there were a few who seemed a little angry...let me set the scene a little better...we have an inside cabin for 4 (2kids 1 hubby & me)...can't call room service & wake the whole family...from my understanding these cabins (NCL Majesty) are very tiny so I would probably wake everyone getting dressed...by PJ's I don't mean anything "sexy", or "slinky"...and I'd prefer slippers to flip/flops as a courtesy to other guests...don't want to be "flip-floppin'" by peoples rooms in the middle of the night....A thermos sounds like it may work...thanks for that. My "insomnia" is actually caused by claustrophobia so I may need to "seek air".

Thank you all...didn't mean to offend!:D

You didn't offend me!:D I'm a tad claustrophobic myself, but have never had a problem with the inside cabins. If I saw you on the ship late at night I wouldn't care, to each his own. However, if it were during the morning when everyone is going to breakfast that would be a different story (not that I would personally care), but My 13 yr. old is going through a phase where seeing women in "personal items" makes him feel wierd. Don't get it, he's seen me in my jammies his whole life, but all of a sudden it's, "Mom, could you put some clothes on please?" At the time he said this to me, I was wearing flannel PJs! I think its the age!

I too think the thermos is the way to go!:D Have a great cruise.

We always wear the ship's robs to and from the hot tubs evey cruise. Have seen others wearing the ship's robs too. But it's a good idea to take a thermos and make your tea before you go to bed. You can always get hot water and tea bags at the buffet any time of day or night!

You know, I just don't think it's appropriate to wander around a cruise ship in your jammies and slippers. My line of thinking is that this is a beautiful floating hotel, and I certainly wouldn't do it at a land-based hotel, so why would it then be okay on a water-based one. Sweats and a t-shirt are more suitable. Just my 2 cents worth.

Smooth Sailing! :):):)

Yeah, it's a little strange to wander around in your pj's in the middle of the night. I would think you've lost your mind.

This morning, I saw a women walk into the coffee shop with pj's and a robe. I think she's lost her mind.

If you need a cup of tea in the middle of the night, here are your options:

call room service

use the coffee pot in your room to heat water to make tea\

make a pot of tea (bring a thermos!) before you go to bed at night

DON'T walk around in jammies and slippers in public places!! Do you do that at home? (if so, I don't really want to know!)

Who has a coffee pot in their room? I have never seen one.

I always think people who are in their cabin robes to eat breakfast are wierd folks. Always someone who doesnt care about how they look. Tacky.

btw I am another insomniac, but I change into shorts and a tee shirt if I want to go walk around until Im sleepy by myself. How many minutes does it take to put real clothes on?

I have seen it done but it looks dumb.

I got stuck doing it once on the last night . . . I put my bags out in the hall, my cabin mate (I wasn't married then) was still in the casino & I accidently got locked out. Almost all of the people in line at the pursuer's desk were also in their PJs b/c they had the same problem. lol

If you sleep in an outfit that looks a bit more like sweats or shorts & a T wandering around for tea will be fine.

Not trying to be smart but if you know you have a problem why would you even book this type of cabin? There is a time when inconvenience outweighs cost....just MHO

Night clothes don't have to look like night clothes... you can wear a t-shirt and sweats to bed, and get a pair of black ballet slippers. Hell, on sea days I'll wear slippers all day and nobody notices because they are black satiny fabric, as opposed to the large bunny variety of slippers.

Would much rather see you out wandering in your robe and jammies than to see some of the folks around the pool who have no business in their bikinis or speedos... have seen some SCARY things out there..

go for it and ignore those who look askance (or refer them poolside)
