Advice...Vision of the Seas or Carnival Pride?

Recommended Posts

My wife and I are planning another cruise this year in October, and we are looking at both the "Vision of the Seas" and the Carnival "Pride". Although both go to the same places and are almost the same pricewise, we're unsure which one to do.

Does anyone have any advice that would help us decide which one to choose? Past experiences?

Also, has anyone stayed at the Sheraton LA Harbor? Is $108 per night a good price for this hotel? Do they offer FREE TRANSPORTATION to the ship?

Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hi I can not speak for Vision but while the Pride sailed from Fl we sailed her 2 times. My entire family 14 of us ranging from 10 to 85 had a great cruise. We really liked the Spirit class ship. The decor is very "artsy" but the ship is quite beautiful and rode well. Pictures of Pride at http://community.webshots.com/user/katesmarma . We were sorry they moved her out. Rooms were quite large with lots of space. We have sailed most lines and can find pro and con in all. As a matter of fact we are due on Mariner this June. First time on a Voyager class and next April we sail to Panama again on Brilliance of Seas. Hope this helps with Pride

I too, recommend the Pride over the Vision. Both cruises were great, and if it were just based on the question of which was the nicer ship ... then I'd choose the Pride.

IMHO I enjoy the overall RCI experience much more than Carnival. I find CCL ships to be much more glitzy, plastic and neon. I prefer the wood, pastel and glass atmosphere aboard RCI ships in general.

Also I have found RCI to offer an overall more elegant experience. The food is superior, the ships well maintained and the staff more professional.

I know this is totally a matter of taste but wanted to offer my perspective.

I'll be on the Vision to Alaska in 4 weeks and would be happy to let you know how she sails!

You obviously haven't been on the Pride. It is a beautiful ship, full of artwork from the renaisance(sp). Not glitzy, plastic or neon.

I wouldn't hesitate to sail her again. We had a great time on her.

my family and i have been on both ships to the mexican riviera. they are both wonderful ships. both times we sailed with our kids (8 & 11). i love rccl we sail on her the most because of the diamond perks. we tried very hard to get the vision again for last thanksgiving but it was completely full for quads. so we were forced to book the pride. i hate to admit it but we had a better time on the pride mexican riviera than we had previously had on the vision. my kids enjoyed it much more. there were lots of activities for the whole family.

pride for mexico

I have only been on the Carnival Victory, so I can't compare the Pride to the Vision but I thought the Vision was the prettiest ship I have ever been on. Very classy! The service was outstanding as well. If you decide on the Vision, I recommend a JSuite.

We have been to Mexico 27 times on RCCL ships, 6 times on Vision of the Seas. We will never travel on Carnival ships. Carnival is full of kids all the time and tends to be chosen by thoses cruisers in the teens and early 20's.

I would recommend Vision of the Seas.

There is a lot of misconceptions about Carnival and many of them come from people who have never even stepped foot on one of their ships like shown from the quote above. If I believed everything that I had read about RCI lately on this board then I would not have booked my upcoming cruise on the Navigator OTS.

First of all, RCI has just as many kids on their ships as Carnival does. Also RCI targets the same demographics as Carnival so you will find the same type passengers on both lines.

The Pride is a beautiful ship. I sailed on her back in April of 02 and feel that this class ship is a real winner. More than likely you would be fine with either ship that you choose.
