to hang or not to hang??

I just bought a beaded top at Nordstoms and was wondering if I should hang it on a hanger or fold it and put in it my drawer. I've read if you hang beaded clothes, they will stretch from the weight of the beads. Suggestions?

Don't know the answer either, but why don't you call up Nordstrom's. They are known for their customer service and since you bought the top there....... If you get an answer from them, please pass it on. Thnx

I have a beaded/embroidered jacket and do not hang it. I fold it and store it on a shelf in my closet. I suppose it may depend on the weight of the beads. My jacket actually had instructions for storage on the care tag.

Just did a live chat with customer service on the website---lay it flat in tissue paper.

I gently wrap the article in tissue paper and lay it in a drawer or on a shelf, I try not to put anything heavy on it. When storing an item for a long period of time, I wrap the item in cotton.

You should also never leave anything chiffon hanging for very long....they should be folded, wrap in tissue and stored in a box......Chiffon, expecially if cut on the bias will "grow" that's why you'll notice a lot of uneven chiffon hems.....and most beaded clothing is done on chiffon.

Guess I better go and get my beaded jacket off the hanger and put it in a drawer!:eek: Hopefully I can find an empty drawer for the top and the jacket! Thanks everyone!

The reason you never hang a heavily beaded anything is because the beading and sequins can be so heavy as to stretch the lighter weight fabric completely out of shape. There have been times when someone has put a beaded gown on a hanger, and when they went to put it on, the silk underdress had stretched so much that the dress was over an inch too long. This isn't the case for heavier knit sweaters with just beaded trim, but for silk beaded dresses and jackets.

I have a beaded top that I also bought at Nordstroms. I got it about 5 years ago for a cruise, and have worn it on many other cruises. I've always hung it on a cushioned hanger and it has never stretched out. It is loaded with beads and sequins.
