pier Posted March 2, 2009 #1 Share Posted March 2, 2009 We have been on ocean cruises (Oceania and Princess), but we've never taken a river cruise. We've found an interesting Danube cruise on Grand Circle. It would be our first river cruise. Has anyone taken a cruise on Grand Circle? How does it compare with Oceania in terms of food, rooms, etc? Druke I Posted March 2, 2009 #2 Share Posted March 2, 2009 We've also sailed Princess, Oceania, and several other lines. We did Grand Circle's Danube Cruise, Budapest to the Black Sea, Sep 07, and generally were quite satisfied. The cabins were small, but certainly adequate. We spent even less time in the cabins than we do on an ocean cruise. The food did not approach the quality of Oceania, but we thought the food quality and variety good. (I am a picky eater, but did not go hungry!) River cruising is very different than ocean cruising, but we did enjoy the trip, and are considering a GCT river cruise on the Rhine. pacmom Posted March 3, 2009 #3 Share Posted March 3, 2009 We have sailed on both O and Princess and have taken 6 river cruises. We have sailed with Uniworld, Viking and Vantage. We have been tied up next to GCT boats and saw some of the cabins thru the windows. They all had pullman style beds. This is something to check on the web sites. If the cabin looks as is there are 2 sofas, they are the beds. Could be dificult for a tall or larger person. We had this configuraton on our Viking trip---all cabins alike. The food was been good to excellent--not as good as O and on Uniworld, better than Princess. Many of the lines include the shore excursions, or you can just wander on your own. Sometimes, the boat moves while you are touring, so best check with TD. If you search the River and Barge board, you will get lots of information. deaconlar Posted March 4, 2009 #4 Share Posted March 4, 2009 Pat Where will I find the "River And Barge Board." As a neophyte to river cruising it could be very interesting. Larry

pier Posted March 9, 2009 Author #6 Share Posted March 9, 2009 Thank you for your input. I'm especially grateful for the info. on the beds. We aren't big, but we do have bad backs. It's good to know about the food, also. Pier
