terrymtex01 Posted March 3, 2009 #54 Share Posted March 3, 2009 Our poor beloved Star..only three little votes.. You know.. I am excited to read so many good postings about the Dawn since we will be on her for the first time this coming Nov. Pearl over Dawn because of: Great Outdoors area on the Pearl A much better buffet layout on the Pearl I could care less about the tall atrium with glass elevators on the Dawn that seems to be such a big deal to many here. It's a toss up for us however; the Sun came in 1st and Star 2nd. I think the reason we love the Sun is for it's size and the best crew--plus they put on one heck of a Halloween party and the casino was generous to us! We really enjoyed the AC stern suite. The Star was memoriable as it was a cruise we took our whole family on---we had an AB suite with the best master bath. Each ship brings back great memories and I can't wait to be on the EPIC!:D The SS Norway will still be number 1 as it was our first cruise and brought us into this great world of cruising and the family of cruisers!!:) You know Baker... I never thought the atrium would matter that much to me.. and I would never pick a cruise because of the atrium... but we both sure missed having that wide open beautiful atrium we are used to on other ships when we where on the Pearl last Oct. I have to say if there was anything physically about the Pearl we thought was a let down it was the atrium.

hawaiilvr Posted March 4, 2009 #57 Share Posted March 4, 2009 Pride of America! The best cruise itinerary out there. Four Hawaiian islands in seven days and only unpacking once. Tropical beauty without the poverty, pushy salespeople at the ports, no "running the gauntlet" of cab drivers as you disembark, etc. PofAm still ranks as my favorite of the four cruises I have been on simply because of the itinerary. Partyatsea Posted March 4, 2009 #58 Share Posted March 4, 2009 I've been on both the Gem and the Dawn and loved them both. I voted Gem because the Dawn has no balconies for 4 people, and no AFs on the aft. I did like the pool setup better on the Dawn tho and it was a tuff call ...... CruisnPhilly Posted March 4, 2009 #62 Share Posted March 4, 2009 Surprising that many of the posts on the NCL boards claim NCL as one of the best values within the main-stream cruise lines. chrisbd1 Posted March 4, 2009 #64 Share Posted March 4, 2009 Though I've sailed the Jewel 3 times, and she'll always be close to my heart, I choose the Dawn. Yes, I messed having the free cappuccino/espresso/latte machines, or the heated loungers in the spa but I loved that the Blue Lagoon has outdoor seating. I love the stadium seating by the pool and I love that the kids pool is on the other end of the ship. I don't dislike children, it's just that the kids area actually seems set up for kids to have a great (loud) time :). MsBelp spent the first four days of our Dawn cruise sad that the Dawn wasn't the Jewel. By the end of the cruise, she didn't want to leave the ship . She slowly fell in love with the Dawn. ;) On our last cruise on the Jewel, I actually had the hostess from Cagneys remember me (in a good way) from our Dawn cruise the year before. That's just awesome !
FJDK Posted March 4, 2009 #65 Share Posted March 4, 2009 I am hoping in three weeks to be able to answer Majesty. The two NCL ships that I have cruised on previously are no longer NCL ships: Dream and Sea. :( If NCL decided not to sale her it would be Dream. jondirk Posted March 4, 2009 #66 Share Posted March 4, 2009 They say you never forget your first, uhh cruise that is. But sorry Sky, we had a wonderful time together but I'm afraid I've found someone else -- her name is Dawn.
debshomespun Posted March 4, 2009 #67 Share Posted March 4, 2009 I chose the POA for her itinerary in Hawaii. It is one of my favorite, although we haven't done it yet on NCL. We have only been on the Pearl and it was a fantastic cruise. Looking forward to our 14 night repo on the Dawn in Nov!
ute_fan Posted March 5, 2009 #68 Share Posted March 5, 2009 I voted for the Pearl -- but I really book more by the itinerary than the ship. My vote for the Pearl was based on doing the Alaska/Glacier Bay itinerary. If it was a matter of sailing to the Caribbean, it wouldn't matter. I normally vote 'whatever my next ship is' when these polls start. But this time, I'll vote whatever ship ute votes for. Oh, Wait---that also happens to be my next ship :) What a coincidence!!! Oh, Wait---that also happens to be my next ship :) What a coincidence!!! BTW-suggest this to your son: http://www.steamtrainride.com/ Hey Monte -- I might vote for whatever my next ship is too -- except that there isn't a "next" ship right now :(. The closest ship to me is going to be whatever one my daughter decided she wants for her honeymoon (if they decide on a cruise), and the mean thing won't allow me to come along! That railroad looks great. We're thinking of going back up with my son once he's done, and I'll add that to the itinerary. He's just been moved to an area in Puyallup, and probably won't be back to Centralia/Chehalis before he comes home.

Luckily for her, it won't be a week that would work out well with my work schedule, so she's safe. Otherwise she might find a stowaway..... Can we vote for the new Oasis of the Seas -- that really looks sweet. And even after the Epic comes out, it'll still be only the third largest. As innovative as NCL has been I would love to see them incorporate a zip-line on their ships. Wouldn't it be cool to go sailing across the top of the ship from one end to the other? Dolphins Posted March 7, 2009 #75 Share Posted March 7, 2009 The Dawn will always be our sentimental favorite. She introduced us to freestyle sailing round trip out of New York. She showed us how good some Hotel directors can be (Klaus and Hugo). She provided some of the best entertainers we have ever enjoyed on a cruise ship- Pamala Stanley, Vladimir Krevian, Anna Y Los Vientos, Best of Friends, Fabrizio Caligaris and many others. We keep going to the Dawn every fall and we are never disappointed.
