traffic problems on interstate 45 to galveston

there is a traffic alert for cruise passengers who are cruising out of galveston. beginning march 3 demolition of the NASA parkway bridge on gulf freeway. just wondering if anyone has been through the area and if there are ways to bypass the problem.
