First Night Dining

First post to CC, not too experienced at cruising (3rd cruise) - we are on the March 29 NCL Dawn to the Eastern Caribbean. Am I correct in assuming that first night dining dress codes might be loosened a bit, as there is no guarantee we will have all of our bags? Or do I need to put dinner clothes in our carry on?

Any other tips from those of you who cruise regularly on NCL? We just wanna :) have fun!

You won't need formal dinner clothes for any of the nights of your cruise. You may not want to wear shorts or a tank top for guys, but other than that, most anything else will be just fine. Have a good time!

We had reservations at Mambo's the first night we sailed, I was wearing capri's and my DH was wearing shorts. I took a nap and he went to the casino...well, I overslept and he wasn't wearing a watch. I woke up and realized that we were late for dinner and went to the casino to fetch him. I told him to come with me to the restaurant and at least check in, but then run back to the cabin for a pair of slacks.

The Matre'D overheard me telling him to go and said he could stay because it was the first night. I was happy when they gave us a table in the corner ;).

Unless you normally travel and board in your wife beater shirt and shorts, you should be okay even with what you wear. Personally, we travel and checkin with resort casual as we prefer to look nice. Buffet always allows just about anything.. have seen folks wearing what looks like pajamas and sandals. Guess it take too long to put pants on.

We've found that's the best way to travel.

Savy folks who go beyond shorts/jeans tend to be treated better in transit. Guys who wear blazers or sport jackets have plenty of pockets for documents and save luggage space too. We pack a change of casual clothes in our carry on.

If you're flying to your departure port, it's good to have an evening outfit separate from your checked bags. ;)

Cruz35; Would you happen to be on the March 28th sailing of the Dawn?

If so see the link in my signature for the Cruise Critic roll call for this sailing. We have a great group that is getting together at sail away. Also we have an official meet & greet with the NCL officers on Sunday. We also have slot pulls, private excursions, a web page with roll call participant photos, shirts, cocktails, and Wisteria Lane. There are over 47 pages of threads!:cool:
