Ref Diabetics

Recommended Posts

I just cruised on the Splendor in January and asked to have the mini-bar unlocked so I could keep my insulin. The steward opened the mini-bar and gave me a sharps container. He said that Carnival requires use of them.

Very thoughtful.

Yes thoughtfull, but also smart. The cost involved when someone get's an accidental stick can be very high. I am supprised they just started this. I am diabetic, and am very carefull with my sharps, but some people just toss them in the trash. That can increase the risk for your room steward getting pricked.

I've had no problem getting sharps containers from the ship. Nonetheless, since Carnival changed the procedure and one now has to ask the cabin steward for one, I always bring my own small one because sometimes it takes a day or so before one arrives. Also, for travel, I always use Freestyle lancets that I get on Ebay because they have a cap that fits over the needle rendering them safe to chuck into the wastebasket.
