CRUISEMAMMA Posted March 15, 2009 #1 Share Posted March 15, 2009 We are debateing on next itenerary. There will be 12-14 adults going and we are trying to decide which Eastern Caribbean Itenerary to take in July of 2010 It is between 7 day on the Dream to Nassau, St Thomas and St. Martin. Or the Liberty to San Juan, St Thomas, and St Matin. Any recommendations, or imput would be appreciated. Is one better than the other? This is cruise number 4 and 4 of us will have been to Nassau but none of us have been to the other ports? Thank you in advance?
outerbks Posted March 15, 2009 #2 Share Posted March 15, 2009 As for the itinerary it is a toss up. The Dream will be the newest ship in the fleet. Go for the Dream.
TGHRS Posted March 15, 2009 #3 Share Posted March 15, 2009 We have been to Nassau several times and to San Juan twice. If your group likes to drink cheap head to San Juan. You have the Bacardi Rum factory tour and within walking distance ffrom the pier you can get samples from 'rums of the world kiosk". You can stop at Don Q location and sample their Rum as well. After a trip to El Morro we sampled the rums of the workd and Don Q. We proceded to walk back to the ship singing the Unicorn Song. We tipped the Bartender $20.00 at Don Q for giving us a tasting of what can be done with their potent potables. There were 6 of us and we did not need to drink the rest of the day. Make sure the stop in Nassau is Mon-Sat. Several shops do not open on Sunday. Have a good trip.
Cruzman Posted March 15, 2009 #4 Share Posted March 15, 2009 Ordinarily I'd lean toward the sailing calling on San Juan (one of my favorite ports), but on this sailing, the ship arrives very late (around 4 PM I believe) and you really won't have enough daylight hours to really do much. I'd go with the Dream on this one.
sam1148 Posted March 15, 2009 #5 Share Posted March 15, 2009 That would be a toss up. I don't care for Nassau (like many others). But the Dream will be a great ship..and it's new. That would tip the balance in favor of the Dream. You'll be spending more time on the ship than in Nassau. For Nassau most people that like it do a shore excursion instead of winging it. Check out the Atlantis resort in Nassau, people seem to like that package...marine life, aquarium, beach, and casino. That's a full day there. cruiseapril Posted March 15, 2009 #7 Share Posted March 15, 2009 We've been to Nassau and to San Juan several times. Nassau has many good excursions and if you enjoy water sports, this would be your choice. Aside from Atlantis, there are Wyndham Cable Beach ($40) and the British Colonial Hilton ($20) for day passes. As someone mentioned, taking an excursion in Nassau is best. San Juan, on the other hand, offers the city experience- Old San Juan and modern San Juan OR you can take an excursion to El Yunque Rain Forest or other such adventures. If Nassau appeals to you, the Dream would be a good choice.

I myself , prefer San Juan , much prettier and nostalgic , while I'm not by any means rich , I do prefer it alot due to the squalor that Nassau seems to emanate . On the other hand, if you've got a bunch of people who would prefer laying on the beach then Nassau and Cable Beach is likely the best option. babybumblebees Posted March 16, 2009 #11 Share Posted March 16, 2009 Having lived in Puerto Rico - I am a HUGE fan of San Juan- lots of history, beautiful architecture, fun nightlife, etc. If you want lots of snorkeling type things - I would hit Nassau. I would definitely book an excursion - there are really some beautiful waters in the area. With that said - the Dream would be worth heading back to Nassau (but not much else is). We are going to be on the Dream next year , we will be doing Nassau, St. thomas, St. Maarten. We will be on the Liberty in September. We will be in SanJuan from 7 to 3:30. While I have been to San Juan before, it has always been the time frame of 5pm to 10. I would love to have a nice beach day, since you lived there for a while, could you please give me some advice of a nice beach or a resort to spend our day? gracie65 Posted March 16, 2009 #13 Share Posted March 16, 2009 I would also consider which one it will be easier for you to fly into. When you sail from Port Canaveral you fly into Orlando & have the ride to the port. If you're spending a few days in Orlando it would be a great way to kill two birds with one stone. If you don't want to have the commute from Orlando The Liberty may be the way to go. I've been to Nassau & San Juan several times. They both have their good & bad. If it was the winter time I would say go for The Liberty as you take a chance of cooler weather in Nassau. I too was looking at both. The Dream was about 600 more. We decided to go in October & save a little money. You may have to just toss a coin!!!!LOL
Heirloom Posted March 16, 2009 #14 Share Posted March 16, 2009 Members that love to play slot machines and table games ? Beach to enjoy? Aquarium to experience ? Go Nassau......Atlantis the nicest casino/hotel/beach scene/aquarium anywhere in the Caribbean......by far. Nothing quite like it. San Juan at night ? Old San Juan interesting to see......but no comparison !
