There are some who, like you, think it is way too big for them. Then there are some, who, like me, enjoy bigger ships, and are anxiously awaiting the arrival of The Oasis!

I personally don't think it is taking away from cruising, I feel it is adding some new, exciting venues for people to try. More in the way of family activities, and also innovative ways for all members of the family to enjoy this magnificent ship.

No, I don't want to shop all the time. There is a flowrider to try, a zipline, a carousel to ride (yes, at 47, I still do!) A Park to walk through. Pools to splash around in.Shows to see, a comedy club to go to, many, many activities of all sorts.

If I feel the urge to suddenly go nude, they have private balconies, where I can hang my "junk" out if I want.

I don't see the " Wall-E" effect. I see something like a "land vacation" at Sea, if that makes sense. The resort came to Sea.

I believe diversity is the flavor of life. If we all liked the same thing, how BORING! There are smaller ships for those, like you. And there are new, bigger, more exciting ships like oasis for those who , like me, love the new features and avenues to explore on them.

I also feel I must add that, after surviving cancer 2 times, I have this need to see everything, and do everything that I can. Life is too short.Cruising different ships, and ports allows me to do that. And this ship is definitely something I can't wait to see!

I hope you enjoy your cruises in the future, and that the smaller ships bring you as much enjoyment as my pleasure on the bigger ships.

Have a great day!:) Jax

Everyone is entitled to their own opnion. So with that being said, it's rather simple "DON'T BOOK THE OASIS OF THE SEAS FOR A FUTURE VACATION".

Ok, enough said...enjoy your 'real cruise' as I will enjoy my 'world at sea'

Well I guess that's why RCCL makes them in different sizes. Given the response recevied so far, apparently there are lots of people who have an interest in a different (cruising) experience- To each his/her own!

It seems silly to even question or judge.

We're giving it a try.

Happy cruising...

First of all I just have to say that I am looking forward to cruising on the Oasis. When I first cruised on a voyager class ship I thought it was awesome and enjoyed its bigness because there were so many places on the ship to explore and relax at and many activities going on. Having a large crowd on the pool and upper deck during sailaway was a high emotionally - and I never got bored the rest of the week. Although there was a full complement of passengers there seemed to be places aboard where it was quiet and relaxing. I'm sure a smaller ship with fewer passengers could feel the same way. I guess the size of a ship is relative to its passengers. Anyway, the Oasis will be so different and I want to be able to experience it, experience that sailaway feeling again.

By the way, the reference to Wall-E and the Oasis was exactly what I thought of when I first saw the movie the other day. It's going to be thrilling - a new world.

I hope everyone enjoys the cruise they are on and pass along the joy to fellow passengers.

Exactly what I was thinking. I love big ships, and also can't wait to cruise on her next April

Time marches on and with that things get "bigger & better"

Just look at Vegas, its sure is not my Fathers Vegas. Some people like the big flashy casinos, I preferred it when it was smaller and you could walk from one side of the casino to the other without a potty break.

Shopping malls are always getting bigger with more family venues.

Highways are always under construction to make them wider.

The world is a much bigger place than it was 20 yrs ago. Technology is moving by leaps and bounds.

I sailed on the Sun Viking that had just over 700 passengers and no TV's in the rooms, it was a wonderful little ship and one of my favorite cruise experiences, but I still look forward to each new ship with all the new bells and whistles. I just wish I had the time & $$ to sail on all of them.

The Oasis is huge, but it is also raising the bar for cruising. When the Song of America came out with two pools people scoffed and said why would you need two pools? The Nordic Prince had a closet sized gym with two bikes and a one old fasioned universal machine. Then came the full sized gyms with all the newest in exercise equiptment, people scoffed and said who wants to go on a cruise to workout?

So right now the "new " stuff on Oasis seem so over the top. But in a few years it will be the norm, and we will be "wow"ed by some new fangled thing on a newer bigger and better ship.

I guess the answer to your question depends on how each of us define "real cruising".

I totally agree with you! Apparently that person has never been on a big ship. Where else you can find all these activities on one place ? I think this is the greatest part of all for the big ships.

My only concern is about the openness of the design of Oasis. When we were on Liberty it was extremely windy out on deck some of the days, especially on the top deck and on the lower deck in the open areas.

With the whole middle of the ship being open, I wonder how windy it will be walking around the boardwalk, Central Park, or even sitting in the Aqua Theater. I'm sure they've tested the aerodynamics of it, but until you put it to sea, with passengers, can they really know how it will feel? I wonder. I hope it's fantastic, it looks like a very fun ship.

I don't think a ship like the Oasis takes away from "real" cruising. I was just on Liberty and I enjoyed that size of "big" ship. But, if you look at the upcoming itineraries for Oasis, it seems they're making it so you're cruising for the ship experience and less for the ports you'll visit.

I just think it is a different option. If you want a smaller ship, or a mid-sized ship, or even a big ship, they're out there. If you want to sail for a particular itinerary, you can do that, too. It's all up to you. No one is forcing anyone to sail on Oasis. Until the prices come down or we save more money, I'll have to wait. :p

Ok, I'm booked on Oasis so I am biased. ;) That said, I just don't understand how this ship can take away from the so called "real cruising"??.

It is new and different, the old, tried and true is still there. You enjoy your cruises in your way, and I'll enjoy mine, my way. Simple. :)

I think if you look back at your initial post - which I am sure was designed to antagonize those here who are super excited about their cruise on Oasis - you will see how one would easily conclude that you have not sailed on one of the new mega-ships by Royal Caribbean. As one who has sailed on several cruises post 100,000 tons, I cannot believe someone would take the time to post on the Oasis sight and conclude that these ships are for those who want to "shop the entire time..or be in an enviroment where i feel like i need to be clothed entirely....zipline?" WHAT???? One, if anyone can decipher what that meant, please let me know. Two, the cruise experience will not change on Oasis. It's still a boat. Just a large one. It still has a theatre, dining room, lounges, pools, rooms, shops, ports, excursions, etc. How is it any different than just being larger??

My wife and I are SUPER excited about Oasis. We had a blast on Freedom. But you don't find us on the smaller ships message boards saying - why do you want to sail on such a small ship? I just don't understand the reason why you took this effort to suck the wind out of the sails of those who are really excited. If you don't want to sail Oasis - don't buy a ticket! Simple!! Enjoy your small ship. I'm sure they are for some people - just not us for right now.

Noticed another thread asking for input on Freedom vs. Oasis. My family has never sailed RCI and I was just looking into taking the girls next year. I'd always said someday we'd do Freedom but fell in love with the information on Oasis.

Would love to have you share your Freedom experience on that thread and advise which way to go for a first time RCI experience.

DH & I sailed on the LOS last May (08). We had a wonderful time, the ship had just reached it's end of the inagural year on our cruise. DH & I will now be sailing on the OOS on 1/2/10...and we can't wait. We enjoy the fun and innovations of new ships.

I would say that the OOS would be like no other cruise ship yet, so starting with OOS for the first RCL, will ceartinly leave you with high expectations, which I'm confident other RCL ships will fufill such expectations. However you must consider, the OOS pricing is set rather high in comparison to the OOS for the first 8 months of sailing (or so I've heard).

I remember reading a cruise writer's review of their experience on a 3,000 passenger ship. He wrote about how he met a nice couple the first day.....and never saw them again the whole cruise....too many people.

The Oasis will be this kind of ship.....meet somebody nice and never see them again among the 5,400 passengers......;)

That is all the more reason for doing a meet and mingle with your cruise critics buddies and that you have some fun activities planned to do together while on the cruise. Just remember that you are on vacation and a busy time schedule is what you left on land.

Most passengers that we have introduced ourselves to have been nice. I think we all like a smile and a Hi, How are you, are you enjoying your cruise. There is that old saying that misery loves company. I believe Happy Cruisers believe they have a ship load of Happy Company.

Not so true, on my LOS cruise I came across a rude and obnoxious woman on the line to board. She was attempting to cut us on line, and for the entire time she was in back of us, I felt as if she was directly on my neck, she was so close.

Now I saw this woman every single day, inclusive of the islands.

DH & I also met many nice couples on board, of whom we saw often.

I Know this doesn't sound really nice, but if somone is standing that close behind me breathing down my neck, I would turn around and cough my fool head off until they backed away! Unless you are my husband, I don't want to feel your breath on my neck soooooo............back off!

We always meet alot of really nice people on our cruises, have not yet run into any one obnoxious at all(knocking on wood)

Im sorry but I have to agree with the original poster, these ships are getting too big for my liking and that is purely on a safety matter that you have not even looked at.....Yes.....what if.......

Judging from one of the posters the itinaries looks like its just a sailing cruise and not a port cruise this will im sure change many of your views being stuck at sea for many a day. Before you start having a go at me I have undertaken many of these types of cruises during my life, both civilisan and military and they can be challenging to say the least for many not used to it.

My 'what if' looks on the safety aspect of a rescue when needed and with 18 yrs experience I know what im on about and a ship of this size worries me greatly !

Not sure if I understand you corrrectly or not, but it's not just a sailing cruise. It goes to 3 different ports in the Eastern and Western Caribbean. Although many people are saying they view the ship as the 'destination' and may not get off at some ports.

As far as the safety is concerned, I'm sure RCCL has done their homework.
