What is the santuary?

I dont believe RCI had this, can anyone tell me what it is?

It's adults only area forward that you reserve for a day or half day and the space is limited. The fee when we sailed was $10 for a half day that may have changed in the last 2 years. It's very quiet and relaxing with plush loungers and chairs. It is non-smoking and you have the option to have spa treatments on deck. There is a special menu from which you can order and have it delivered to you lounger, the hot tubs are one deck down at the spa pool.

The Sanctuary "surrounds" the Lotus pool area - one deck above. The entrance is directly above the steps to the Lotus pool itself and it spreads out on either side (where the loungers are in the sun) and under the dome itself.

The Sanctuary is more about peace and quite (and fabulous fat cushions on the loungers) than anything else. When we sailed there were "serenity stewards" who brought water and offered fruit, that was about the extent of the complimentary services. They have a special menu (which was great) and drinks for the Sanctuary but those will be extra. Still to us it was worth every penny.

You can reserve it by the half day or full day but not in advance.

I was well worth it IMHO.

An Ocean of Calm: Introducing "The Sanctuary" on Crown Princess

Exclusive Haven Debuts on Newest Princess Ship with Dedicated "Serenity Stewards" to Pamper Passengers

SANTA CLARITA, CA (May 22, 2006) - When Crown Princess sets sail for the first time on June 14, those onboard will not only experience a plethora of non-stop onboard activities, but also Princess' newest "pocket of tranquility" called The Sanctuary. An adults-only retreat on the uppermost forward deck of the ship, The Sanctuary offers a relaxing alternative to the myriad outdoor activities and entertainment available elsewhere throughout the ship. Solitude seekers will be able to escape completely to this plush, outdoor spa-inspired setting with signature beverages, light meals, massages, attentive service and relaxing personal entertainment.

"Serenity Stewards" Attend To Every Need

The presence of Serenity Stewards in The Sanctuary underscores the atmosphere of tranquility and service, offering a respite for relaxation. These stewards are on hand to provide passengers with everything from a chilled face towel and Evian water atomizers, to a menu of healthy beverages and fare. Serenity Stewards will also have personal MP3 players with noise canceling headphones available for rent, loaded with themed playlists focused on relaxation for those who want to escape with music.

Al Fresco Massages

The Sanctuary will also feature two outdoor private cabanas where guests can also take advantage of the exclusive Lotus Spa Services at The Sanctuary, including sybaritic favorites such as a Deep Tissue Muscle Massage, a relaxing Swedish Massage or a Full Body Lotus Massage especially for couples. Shorter interludes of massage pampering will also be available as massage therapists will offer back, shoulder, and neck massages using special massage chairs.

When not indulging in spa services, Sanctuary guests lounge amidst lush greenery, with the presence of gentle breezes, ocean waves, and softly piped-in spa music combining to further insulate the area with relaxation sounds. Guests will relax on plush outdoor furniture including double loungers for couples, as well as deluxe chaise lounges and chairs.

And for those looking for a relaxing end to their day, sunset yoga sessions offer the opportunity to unwind and tone their muscles accompanied by nature's beauty.

Jan Swartz, Princess' senior vice president of customer service and sales, explains that, "With The Sanctuary, Princess has expanded once again on our concept of choice - we're not only providing an alternative venue for our relaxing spa services, but also offering passengers the opportunity to escape to a tranquil retreat at any time, day or night."

Refreshing Drinks and Healthy Snacks

Guests can also refresh with a variety of special drinks and snacks created exclusively for The Sanctuary. Each day Serenity Stewards will be on hand to offer guests an array of drinks and snacks. Signature Sanctuary beverages include healthy smoothies, energy drinks, iced flavored waters and freshly made lemonade. A menu featuring a selection of light bites such as refreshing fruit skewers, lettuce wrapped spring rolls, and spicy tuna pbti with baked pita wedges will also be available through the Serenity Stewards. The Sanctuary is located on Crown Princess' deck 17, adjacent to the Lotus Spa and the spa's swim-against-the-current lap pool.

I think I would get bored there, but people seem to really like it. To each his own. My favorite way to pass the day away is watching a movie while I am sunbathing, all the while keeping an eye out for the "cookies & fresh milk" guy that comes around in the afternoon. That is my perfect afternoon!;)

The Spa Menu items are also free. There is a $3.00 delivery charge for anything the Attendants fetch for you (not towels, water, etc., just food and drinks) ... and, yes, they will gladly go get you a hamburger or slice of pizza.

It's also a place where you don't have to fight for a chair on the deck (unless you count waking up early to book on a sea day as a fight). Very relaxing and worth trying at least for a half day to say you did it.
