I don't think you can make it in 20 hours from BC. Especially in the winter. We have driven from here to Disney/Anaheim area in 20 hours straight thru. Not so fun but is doable. You will have sore rear ends by the time you get there. Plan on an extra day to spend getting there is case of problems during travel. Travel over the Siskyou(sp) summit thru Lake Shasta, CA area and Grants Pass in Oregon on I-5 can be a challenge in the winter months. I would suggest flying if I were you. Craving A Cruise Posted March 23, 2009 #3 Share Posted March 23, 2009 Vancouver bc canada we are thinking of making a trip out of getting to the cruise in January 2010 is this oable or not there will be 4 drivers 10 hours a day we d be there in 2 days or 7 or 8 hours we d be there in 3 days Hi SilverVal, Yes, it is possible!! We have made this trip several times. We live about an hour or so south of San Pedro and have made the trip in about 22 hours driving time, with only 2 drivers. As the previous poster mentioned, it may be a little more troubling during the winter months especially thru Grants Pass. One year, my Dad got stuck waiting on the highway for more than 6 hours because the highway patrol had closed the highway due to bad weather. They had to wait for snowplows to clear the roads and then everyone was police escorted at about 10mph over the pass (northbound). This is probably the "worst-case scenario". But as long as you plan extra time into your trip you should be just fine! I think making the journey part of the vacation is a great idea! Taking 3-4 days to get to CA is a good option and stopping along the way to see some wonderful sights sounds like a fun way to extend your vacation. After the cruise, you can probably get home in 2 days or so. I suppose the decision to drive just depends on if you can take the extra week off work or not.:) Another possibility, if you did not want to fly to CA, is to take the Amtrak train from Seattle to LA and then just rent a car in LA. We did this once before and it was a very relaxing, not to mention scenic, way to travel. Craving A Cruise

We drove to Medford, Oregon on the first day, Stockton, CA on the second day, and arrived in LA on the third day. And yeah, my butt was sore. I can't stand to sit, so this wouldn't be an option for me, but it is doable if you don't mind numb butt.;)
